2005 RR 4.4 V8 (Jaguar AJ-V8) continuous rattle | |
Hi all,
Recently purchased a 05 facelift RR Vogue SE V8 with what I thought to be timing chain noise. It has 128k miles with good service history up until 100k miles (possibly neglected since causing this issue?)
This has the first of the Jaguar AJ-V8 engine and not the M62.
The continuous loud rattle seems to be coming from the drivers side (UK vehicle) bank of cylinders in the VVT area, and rattles in relation to revs and doesn't clear. I have began a strip down, all cams flats are in line with each other, timing chains all look OK although the secondary cam chain is very slack on both sides, there is roughly 1/2" of free play to the chains which looks worrying although I think this is just due to no oil pressure with engine off?
I have looked for a few days on Google to pin point this error but can't seem to find anything on this newer 4.4 AJ-V8 engine.
Is there any common things that I havnt been able to find on Google that might explain this?
I don't want to try a chain set and this not be the problem and have to begin another laborious tear down, so if I can take a step back, pin point and then try and repair with confidence, I figure this might save a bit of time in the long run.
Any advice would be very very appreciative
Kind regards
WoddyRR
