Coolant Level

Went out today to do a routine maintenance check (tyre pressures, oil level, other things under the bonnet levels...).

I noticed the coolant reserve tank was JUST below the "Cold Add Level". I checked the Manual, which stated that the coolant level shouldn't be checked until the info centre sends out a "Low Coolant" warning. I haven't received any warnings. So, top it up or wait until there's a warning?

It's a NAS spec 2008 with the 4.4 AJV8.

If yes to adding, what should I be putting in there?

Much thanks in advance! Bow down

Hi -
Funny this, I had to buy a top up for mine recently - also AJV8 4.4 . . . . spooky !
Anyway, MD supplied me with SRC 50529 (1LT) - "Extended Life Anti Freeze Coolant" - It's the pinky/orange stuff - may be different to yours as it is NAS Spec ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Much thanks! Bow down That sounds like what I need. The liquid is pinky-orange -not the colour I'm used to.

Is this stuff Land Rover specific - buy at the dealership stuff, or can I get it at any auto store? (Crappy tire, Lordco, etc.)

There are two main types of coolant.
Glycol based (usually blue or green) and Organic Acid Technology (OAT) (usually orange/red or yellow).
The orange stuff (and the part number quoted above) is OAT type.
The two types are not compatible, just make sure you add an OAT fluid.

Hi,

I went into the LR main dealer to collect 1 litre of the same coolant they use. The coolant level had dropped to about 1" below the minimum Range Fill marker due to the bleed screw on top of the expansion tank seemingly having been put on without a washer after a recent new radiator. No warnings activated. The permanent fix was to top up (50/50 water coolant mix) and I wrapped some white plumber's PTFE tape around the bleed screw thread. Now stable and perfect. The main dealer used this on our car:

Xpart, OAT5 Anti Freeze longlife, Approved for MG Rover, picture of the bottle below:
