Just been to a fireworks display at a local estate .... rain made the parking field absolutely thick with mud and chewed up grass, when we were walking back to the car practically every car was struggling for grip with people just flooring it whilst stationary and people pushing cars and getting covered in mud.

We just dried off our boots, got in and started engine and selected 'GG&S' from the TR knob and cruised out of the field witth zero wheel spin passing people left and right stuck fast.

Yea I suspect there were a few 'Look at that smug b&$t&rd!' comments flying about .... As we got out of the car on the way in I overheard some old boy saying something about the range rover over there will be alright on this type of ground (was fairly evident at that stage that people were gonna struggle to get out)

TBH I was slightly worried that if I did get stuck I'd be the focal point for alot of laughing and finger pointing - but I was surprised how effortlessly it actually coped - I was expecting a bit of sliding or spinning but got none of it.

I'm just amazed that people have zero idea how to drive nowadays, instead of picking the less chewed up routes they just followed like sheep and ended up getting stuck in thick mud, flooring it in the hope more power will help them, but just ended digging themselves deeper into the mud.

Pretty sure the staff were on hand to push/tow them out but I'd gladly of towed people - for £20 a pop, and with them doing all the roping up.



Nearly had some ar$ehole plow into the back of us on the main road tho when he failed to stop in time and swerved into opposite lane to avoid us.

Years ago I used to do a lot of off road driving & the local 4x4 club I was in used to manage the firework display car park for charity. We used to pray for a nice bit of rain so that we could have some fun and raise extra cash.

Have the same sort of ff moment when the river bursts onto the road on my way to work.

Have pulled several people out in the past where they seem to belive normal cars can wade in 2ft of water alomg 300yds of road.....  There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Make sure you have a decent set of tyres before you start showing off! A couple of years ago I was at a do in a muddy field at Calke Abbey and I thought I would get out no problem in my FF. I had tyres that were almost on the minimum and I struggled to get out, I had to put it in low range and let tickover pull me out! It was one of those moments were you feel a rick dick!

I bought my 2002 L322 a few months after the model was released over here.

Not long after that, a group of us would meet up and go off road when ever we could.

As most of us were LR owners, we got together and established the Gold Coast LR owners club.

We had been going for about a year when we decided to get some professional training for many of the new members in the club and organised to take part in an Advanced Offroad Driver Training course held by one of the very large off road clubs on the coast.

This was about 2004 and the vast majority of vehicles in that club were Asian and as is always the way, all day long us Landy drivers got a friendly ribbing.

All day long we followed all the instructions and finished the course, then after the training was finished they held a Social drive around a course and we came to one section that had not been used as part of the training.

The track came up the base of a “T” section and on the left side was a very long, steep climb, predominately covered with loose gravel. The right leg of the T was a short, flat section about two to three car lengths long.

The procedure was to turn left into the T and then back up as far as you could into the short leg of the T and wait till the previous vehicle cleared the top. At which point, the driver would then gun the living daylights out of his 4x4 to get as much speed up as possible by the time they reached the base of the hill climb.

There was about 40+ vehicles there on the day and most made it up first go, some took a few goes but all eventually got to the top.

I was near the back of the pack and when my turn came, I turn into the T and back up as far as I could and waited to be waved off.

When I got the go, I gunned the RR and then stopped dead at the base of the climb. I then proceeded up the entire length of the hill at no more than 10 KPH.

All the way up you could hear the brakes braking and releasing and all the way up I could see their club members waving to other members to come and see the RR showing them how it was done properly.

At the top was all the LR owners giving the thumbs up.

Went to thr festival of speed a few years back in the e39 bmw.

It rained all day, needless to say it was difficult to get out. We managed it mostly in a sideways direction, wich was awesome fun though probably not too good for the grass!

There were plenty of stuck cars and 4x4's just happened to have new tyres on the back which probably helped some. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
