Just a quick one.....

I have had my old battery sat on the bench staring at me for 2 weeks, since the Bosch S5 has taken it's place. 2 days ago I put it on charge to see what the bobby moore is....so now I get a reading of 14.1v @ 0.0Amp....is this normal on a charger, shall I continue blindly expecting it to heal itself or shall I take the £12 weigh in and call it quits !

Am getting FSR changed at service to be safe ! Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

I would expect to see 12.8v immediately after charging and under no load, dropping slowly to around 12.5v over a few days. Are you sure your meter is accurate? Thats what my 3 year old Varta showed sitting on the bench after replacing it with a new Bosch S5.

The meter is fine, but I don't understand the Volts-Amps situation. If I charge my leisure batteries off the same digital charger I get an amp and volt reading, with the old exide I am showing 13.3v this morning but 0.0amps ?

I don't know what that means and am curious ? Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........

You won't get a current (amps) reading until the battery is under load. See this
article for further info:

Fitted new FSR today and still getting 700 milliaamps parasitic battery drain so bit the bullet and now booked into the local indie garage for full alternator diagnostics and possible replacement (under warranty) next Monday.

When you switch off the engine and engage central locking, the A/V switch light and parking brake light go out in around 2 minutes. However, if you open the car and then lock it without starting the engine then my Satnav screen seems to stay on for at least 8 minutes. Strange!

Update on dead battery saga
Local indie has had the car for 5 days and confirms there is no fault with the alternator and that
battery is now holding its charge with less than 200milliamps grain when asleep! They suggested a
transient electrical fault - great!
