First day of bad frost up here in sunny Scotland

I go out to the Full Fat this morning try to open the door its frozen shut.... after some gentle pulling I manage to get it open and get the car started however when I went to close the door over again it wouldn't shut (seemed like the mechanism was frozen over) I've never had this in any car and it seems a little dissapointing that a 60k 4x4 would do this (particularly when some 10k supermini's I've owned in the past don't )

Is this a common problem? Had a search and as I understand it the freezing doorseals is common but not this one. Any ideas if I could have something faulty? As I'd rather get it sorted than possibly be stuck somewhere with a door which won't close over  Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White

very common problem Andy and gets mentioned every winter..

the door seals stick and the solution is to condition the rubber ..
the door locks freeze and the only permanent solution is to strip them out and cover with loads of grease..

do a search theres load son this.. ... - .- -.

The door seals I can live with - had this on many a car but the freezing mechanism is a bit of a disappointment, particularly when it's only - 2 this morning! It's not uncommon to see - 7/ -8 in December/January around these parts..... I should really clear that garage out  Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White

both my front doors suffered on my td6 and my son dis-mantled the whole locking mechanism and liberally applied grease to the lock and as much as he could to the inner and outer cables... ... - .- -.

btw Andy there is one solution to the bit where you can eventually open the door from the ouside but cant close it..you hold the door shut and then press the centre dash door lock button, this should lock the door but beware you wont be able to re-open it until the door lock unfreezes.... ... - .- -.

Just given my door seals the tesco furniture polish treatment, hope it wasn't a wind up. Saw it in another post and didn't want my seals frozen again tomorrow. I will buy some silicon spray at the weekend.  Traded in my Audi TT 225 for my Range Rover TD6 Autobiography in Java Black. Range Rover now sold.

Gummi Pflege is the best for conditioning the rubber on the door seals.. ... - .- -.

I used to have the door issue with my old Pug 405, bloody nightmare. Ended up with the "poor mans cabin pre-heater" to resolve it. You leave a small electric fan heater in the car (similar to what they do in Sweden but without the engine heater), extension cord into the car. When you get out of bed on your way to the breakfast table, plug it in. By the time you are getting into the car, the interior is nice and warm, windows clear and door opens and closes without issues. Not the sexiest solution but it did work as spraying the lock liberally with WD-40 and the likes never did the trick (granted I never opened the door card, too lazy ). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I was about to say the same thing re locking the doors but Stan has already mentioned it. I push the door pin down whilst holding the door closed. The heater then goes on full blast until I get to work by which time, the door lock un freezes. Many a time I've had to climb over the passenger seat to get out!

You wait till the heated washer jets freeze up!
