pld118, I actually feel the rear indicators on the pre 2009 cars are probably the bulbs that need replacement the most. Especially the rear indicators, just checkout how subdued your rear indicators look when your brake lights are on. I got the opportunity to see both a 2007 rear indicator running on one car with a 2012 rear indicator on another side by side and the difference in visibility is astounding in my opinion.

I myself am in the process of deciding if I should replace the rear indicator bulbs or fit 2012 rear light units for this exact reason. I personally prefer the style of the earlier lights on 2002 to 2009 cars but much prefer the safety factor of the 2010 on rear light clusters as the indicators are way more visible than the older style ring.

What I cannot say is how much better fitting high lumen output leds in the rear indicator cluster would improve the situation, as the indicator will still be a ring around a brake light, but I imagine a brighter faster activating light should certainly improve things.

@Prop - noted thanks. Whilst saying not too sure, nor am I discounting these bulbs. I suppose trialling a pair of £20 bulbs, if they achieve what you are after with no obvious negatives, then that is a significantly cheaper solution than changing both rear light units, particularly if you like the existing unit anyway.

what my learned friend Prop says Ryan...

i'm not to concerned with the front and side indicators and i will those alone as they work ok ,its the rear ones which i feel could be improved to improve the amber against red situation..the cheapo bulbs i've ordered will give me an idea if smds are better in the rears or not and if yes then i'll look for some cree type with a better lumen output to the OE bulbs..

this brings me to the question of, is there a reflector behind the led brake housing to bounce a forward beam cree bulb around it?

Stan, maybe Craig would know the answer, I am pretty certain he will have had these lights apart at some point.

Select from 4 Cree LED indicator bulbs

Going to order a pair of Cree LED indicator bulbs today, so from this thread, which of the 4 types would you be inclined to go for please:

** I just want safe, effective, plug and play with no errors and no need for resistors (all of these suppliers have good selling track records according to ebay feedback).

60 watt @ £35/pair (UK supplier)?

7 watt @ £20/pair? (China supplier)

30 watt @ £30/pair (UK supplier)

60 watt @ £39/pair (UK supplier)

The one I would have gone for is showing as not available any longer.

I actually emailed online4bulbs about the 30W/£30 pair of UK supplied indicators this morning. Response pending and the ebay supplied mobile number 'is not recognised'...

4 LED indicator bulbs ordered

The 2 main indicator bulbs of interest from this thread were these:

7 watt @ £20/pair (China supplier trading by the name of uwlled@163.com.)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320777100341?ssP...1438.l2649 "

30 watt @ £30/pair ("UK" supplied/ no longer available)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111085671065?ssP...1438.l2649

Anyway, I've just ordered 4 number of the above quoted £20/pair bulbs via ebay at an all inclusive delivered cost of £38.98, due delivery between 25.11.13 & 11.12.13 Rolling Eyes

pld118, I am confused, the £20 a pair lights from China show up as 7watt bulbs not 30watt. These bulbs are approx half the lumen output of the 30watt £30 a pair bulbs which are no longer available.

So it looks like you will be getting the single CREE led with 12SMD leds giving an output of 400 lumens which is still much higher than a standard 21watt incandescent bulb.

The £30 a pair out of stock bulbs use 6 CREE leds, 2 forward facing and 4 side facing giving 850 lumen output.
