M62 tub44 Upper timing chain tensioners

Has anyone replaced the upper timing chain tensioner slipper pads using
Landrover part number LGJ000050 on the Petrol M62tub44 engine.
The body of my tensioners are working fine but pads are starting to show signs of ware. There is a huge price saving if this is a possability.
Looking at the on screen image and comparing it to the installed tensioner it looks as though it should be a straight swop as the slipper pads seem to be identical top and bottom.
The thing that muddies the water somewhat is that the parts draw down only showed 1 off Needed !!!!
Has anyone actually done this job or knows if all four pads are swappable. I can't seem to find any instruction how to do this Eddie the eagle watch out 👀

Hi Pete
The top cam chain that drives the inlet and exhaust cams via the VANOS unit has a tensioner in the middle that tensions that specific chain on each head.
To replace that tensioner part as a unit cost around £90 per unit. But on the landrover parts diagrams it shows a part that looks to me like a service part for these tensioner the part number is LGJ000050 number (14 on uploaded screen grab) and list as a slipper pad x1
My question is if the affore mentioned part is a service part then four should be the number required at around £4.80each.
If this is the case has anyone fitted them and if so what is the procedure.
The special tool is part of the cam/VANOS locking tool and is just a spring clip that locates into a hole in top and bottom pads and stops them been pushed out by the internal spring it is nothing special at all. See Figure 15 on diagram
Hope this explains a little more clearly what my previous rambling were trying to ask. Eddie the eagle watch out 👀

That does seem strange, maybe ask Dan at duckworths if he knows, or order one and see if you can change it... Thumbs Up Pete

I have spoken to Dan and he is looking into it. He has sent me a link to an online manual site that you have to pay a subscription for.
But I have been through the Rave Manusl and can't see anything that relates to it. At £20 I will have a go and see what happens. Can't be rocket science. Eddie the eagle watch out 👀

Think I bought BMW ones although I still haven't gotten around to changing my timing chain guides and VANOS yet I bought all the kit ready to do it.
Let me check my spreadsheet...
LR Part no.: LGJ000050 BMW Part No.: 11311435028
4 off required RRP £6.14ea

I think changing them is straight forward, only tools are obviously camshaft/VANOS locking and setting tools. The kit includes a pin to retract and hold the tensioner so you can remove the chain and tensioner and then change the pads.
Details on changing them were in the Beisan Systems VANOS rebuild procedure which can be found here:
http://www.beisansystems.com/procedures/m62tu_vanos_procedure.htm

VANOS repair

Thanks for that. That is the best and most comprehensive step by step walk through I have ever seen. It has answered my question spot on.
This is a must read for anyone attempting a timing chain / VANOS work.
Thankyou so much. Eddie the eagle watch out 👀

VANOS seal repair

I take it all back the VANOS repair is akin to Rocket Science. But more like open heart surgery. Eddie the eagle watch out 👀
