One of the main reasons for brake squeal is hot gas (air) trapped between the pad surface and the disc itself, this whistles as it come out the sides of the pad, that's why it's worse under light braking and better when you stand on the brakes...

SWMBO's Aston does this quite a lot, mainly because she never really gives it the beans. An "Italian Tune Up" with plenty of hard braking sends the squeal packing for several weeks. Massive brake pads tend to glaze over if not used hard occasionally. |

I put that on mine and they still squeal a bit, they are better on a longer run with some heavy braking though as Dom says. It is a feature, and seems to be more of a problem on my car now they are fitted with the 6 pot callipers than it was with the 4 pot ones on the old car. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I scuff my discs with 40 grit everytime the wheels are off when the FF gets its once a month "deep" clean, seems to help dissipate the hot air and stop the discs glazing over, was taught it as an apprentice and it works fine. '55 Java Black Vogue |

I put drilled and grooves on my old FF and the squeel went, My current FF had brand new brakes all round just before I got it so I'm being a tight yorkshireman and getting some life out of them before I change, I'll live with the squeel for now and carry on annoying other motorists when I pull up next to them Current

Still not a peep... Think it was the quality of the 'tradesman' who put into practice all that was learned during the anti squeal research

For the record, I have drilled discs on front, and they squeal. I reset them with some rubbery disc squeal compound, but it came back. Thank goodness the discs are worn out, so I can get some solid ones, and fit the new pads I have waiting. I've never got on with the drilled ones.

It could be all down to the way I myself, fit pads. However, my drilled discs and pads were on the car at purchase, and were squealing, and two goes and it came back. I'm not saying they are no good,(drilled) but I have had more than a few 'squeaky-bum' hard brakings, to wonder if the less contact area, meant slightly less effectiveness. (Using my man science)
