I would follow the manuf service schedule. if its sealed for life then it Depends on how long you are planning on keeping it and the mileage you do. If your planning on keeping it 5 years and doing 50k then change the oil. If its only a year or two then personally I would leave well alone as there are several horror stories following g/box oil and filter changes. |

Im pretty sure that LR now recommend a oil and filter change on the TDV8 box at 100,000 miles. I would check with them directly on that though as i cant remember where i heard it from. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Master Technician at an LR UK main dealer told me that face to face a few weeks ago (gearbox 'service' should be done @ 100k miles)... |

I was thinking if I still have my car at 100k then I will give it a treat and change the gearbox oil. But at the current rate that will be at least 3 years from now so the car might be 10 years old --- it could be its birthday present. Anything else to plan for ? Geoff |

The cost of the filter and ATF is not that high. The official recommendation the dealer in the Netherlands gave me was 100,000 miles (160,000 kms). I would feel better to follow Craigs advice as the cost of a new box or a refurb job is a lot more than the cost of 3 filter/ATF changes in 100,000 miles. Just to be safe.

What's the ball park figure my local indie says they don't do it, as might make it worse and they don't have the equipment. I watched wheeler dealers when they fixed a boxster auto gear box by changing the filter and new ATF oil, sump off etc.. |

Given the probs I have had with mine I am considering it as a preventative measure but am worried over the tales of accelerating failure Worse things happen at sea! Well thats what swmbo said when WRENS came to sea!!! |

What's the worry with this? What could possibly go wrong with changing the oil and filter? |
