A question for our Francophiles

I've tried without success on the internet to get any info re this genuine question -
What region of France is similar in geography to the rolling hills of North Wales. I'm not including the upper heights of Snowdon in this question or the coastal towns.
Thanks in advance for replies. Travelling around in circles again.

Not too familiar with North Wales but from what I know of it, parts of the Correze, Limousin, Auvergne. Around the Massif Central and the Plateau de Limousin. Once on top of the Massif though you can run for miles on relatively flat country at about 1000/1500 metres.

Unless going east to the Alps or south to the Pyrenées then, IMHO, if you look east and west to the south of Clermont Ferrand there is (quite high in places) hilly country.

These suggestions are nothing like comprehensive and others will no doubt have ideas. As I write, I think of the Ardennes, the Lozere etc.

^^ +1 for Weegie’s reply, especially the mention of the Auvergne. I used to live in Aydat, which is 20-25 km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand in the Massif Central. The whole area around where we lived is at between 800 & 1,000 metres or so, with rolling hills all round and the higher hills of the Sancy Massif in the distance. Of course there are differences, but my ex-wife (who is Welsh) used to say how it reminded her of home. It's "bĂ©bĂ©choon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

This was the view from our house. It's mid-summer and a bit on the dry side!

I never regretted our move to France ... ... 30 years ago now!
You read of some people who have regretted their move, but very often they haven't done their research and/or haven't made an effort to speaka da lingo, nor to integrate. The French are lovely people - but you need to get to know them.
And France is a fabulous country.
I wish you luck. I'm sure Weegie will be a mine of info, but if I can help in any way, don't hesitate Thumbs Up It's "bĂ©bĂ©choon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.

That is a great step in life. We have moved 15 years ago from Holland to France and stil no regrets. We have gone through the whole charade of fiscal paperwork, health insurance, school choise ( my son is 16 now) car importation, house search etc etc
Before we settled we did a year "on tour" renting houses in areas we had in mind for 8 weeks or more, which helped us very well in finding an area with people we liked. But remember, you've got to speak the language for a successful integration.
If I can be of any help do not hesitate to mail rfv@orange.fr.

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Cairns Blue

Bought over there 18 months ago, holiday home for now with view to retirement any advice PM me for phone number.
Anywhere below the Loire get the nice summer temps.
As Weegie said Correze, Limousin, Creuse all got good transport links and cheaper than the Dordogne.
Blond hills north west of Limoges nice but not as high as wales.
Haute Vienne just like rural Cheshire.
Whatever you decide I dont think you will regret it.
good website www.leboncoin.fr But plenty of English speaking Estate agents happy to take your money!
Which is very good at the moment thanks to Greece. Mine was a blue one! Smile

As Andy says, leboncoin can be a useful site but beware of scammers on it. They are usually fairly obvious but just a word to the wise. Wink

Also when you start to search be very careful about what you sign. Some of those (not all by any means) who offer to search for property for you have been know to include in their Ts&Cs quite substantial fees.

However, you have offers of guidance/information from here. John

I've commenced my search on the 'place in the sun' website. We were going to live in Italy as my wife is half Italian and our current short term work contracts have been in Italy. However we have now decided to live in France and still take short term contracts in Italy. An adventure is an adventure wherever it takes you. As I said earlier I'll be in touch with you all at some point.
