Though now looking more like this Mr M success story of a couple of years back (front two wheels/ always the worst) will be immaclyat this time tomorrow

Cleaning the inside of wheels is definitely an OCD step too far for me.....

If you run winter wheels then it starts to make sense

I agree that when they are on the car, I wouldn't bother, but when you have a set off the car, it seems rude not to clean the back too

I've just pt a couple of coats of Poorboys when seal on the back of my winter wheels before they went on the car - and I can't really justify why i did it

The front 2 of 4 done... They were caked and baked but have come up like new. Can't stand dirty or half clean dishes although do tend to agree with CEEGEE at this point, me thinking what's the point

I have tried various wheel cleaners and found them a bit of a hassle to use and not that effective. I think some of them damage the coating on the spokes - my summer wheels were replaced under warranty due to corrosion under the lacquer, maybe caused by use of caustic cleaners when the car was a demonstrator.

Now I just get a bucket of cold water and an old non-scratch washing up sponge and clean the wheels with that every time I clean the car. I reach between the spokes as far as I can with the sponge and then use a wheel cleaning brush on the bits I can't reach with the sponge. Ideally one would roll the car part way through to get at the bits by the calipers, but I work on the basis that it probably won't be the same bit each time, so I don't bother. A new bucket of water is needed for each wheel, sometimes two buckets at the front. When the wheels are changed over winter and summer the dishes get a full clean, again just with cold water, before the wheels are put away. There can sometimes be residues in the corners of the spokes, probably tar, which can be removed with Autoglym polish.

My wheels are not as perfect as the ones pictured, but OK and of course it helps being able to clean them when they are off the car. Only Range Rovers since 1988

For many years now have used Mr Muscle on inner rims when they've got a couple of years worth of caked and baked grime and it's never obviously damaged anything in my experience. I did then use AG SRP and then AG High Gloss Protection treatment on both these latest wheels although think that the best way is as CS explains; and now that the wheels are back to as new condition, will just wash them with shampoo and water once per week and they'll stay looking nice and clean.

Ps... I reach the inner part of tricky dishes with a long cut off wooden paint brush handle and press it down on top of one if those bug and tar removal sponges (the ones with the netting around the sponge). If your wheels are clean that method works well... Or the paint brush handle can be pushed into a narrower wash mitt... Sad but true!

I use Cif and a worn paint brush on the insides of wheels, come up like new.

That's 3 of the 4 wheels now cleaned, Mr Muscled where necessary, shampooed, polished and sealed. As the car was bought as an A.U, this strain of CDO means you find out if they've been refurb'd... and nice to have found no overspray or brake/grime sealed in by lacquer and that they're original, unmarked never been refurb'd wheels. As commented on by others, theyre a doddle and quick to clean once a week with water and car shampoo now; and they look great when you can see the inner dishes as clean as the outer face

The 4th will have to wait because one of the nuts is swollen and need to order a new nut (4 wheels and 2 afflicted with swollen nuts).

Swollen nuts is such a PITA, have had to replace 6 on the disco this year as they were terrible.

There are 3 on the FF which are a bit fat and they struggled with yesterday at the tyre garage but I will get them done when it has a service as it saves me a trip into the dealer..... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Neither will damage paint or lacquer. I use the latter every wash and have done for a long while now. I use it diluted in a spray bottle and it cleans the whole wheel, inside and outside without needing any agitation, just a hose off or at most a soapy sponge.

I don't use wheel sealants as this is very easy to apply every other wash and works well at creating a barrier that stops stuff sticking to the paint/lacquer http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-sp..._1178.html
