update:
Motor has been in the garage for its mega flushing out, they have done a really good job in getting it cleaned out as it was all over parts of the engine bay etc. Now you could eat your dinner off it, Magic  He did say it was a pig of a job as it stunk and gassed everybody out for a good few hours  Gotta pop it back in after 2 weeks to do another flush if required and a quick once over.
They seemed confident its not a head gasket failing & I have done 250 miles in it since we got it running again and it hasn't dropped a beat (fingers crossed of course). The engine thermostat needs replacing as its not doing its job correctly but im unsure if this was already like this or as a result from the thick goo.
Another job to be done shortly
