Here is one with the dipped beam and side lights on. I have fitted LED side lights as well. The colour match of the Halo's to the HID headlights is pretty close. I would approximate the standards headlights to be around 4500k with the Halos having a colour temp of apprx 5000k.

As mentioned a few posts back:

I bought my halo kit from forum member Jr-auto-electrics for £90. They were not cheap but the quality seems very good. They are much brighter than I imagined. I have seen cheaper sets on eBay etc but wanted the peace of mind of buying a tried and tested kit etc.

Due to being bone idle and fear of wrecking something I got my halo's fitted by Cam-Tech-Craig, and even he was surprised at how bright they were. From all accounts the fitting is something that can be undertaken by the DIY'er.

To be honest I think they look better viewed by the human eye than by the camera. But hopefully the pictures will give you a rough idea.

Fitting being DIY? That means cooking the lights to open them. Whistle Ummm.... not me. I'm terrified I'd break them.

Then there's the 'sorcery and witchcraft' wiring to do, which I understand nothing about. Maybe others have the same opinion as me in regards to their own skill level.

So £90 plus fitting. Thanks. Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.

Prop/ Stan/ All this is exactly the look I was after.

£90 is not a lot for the kit IMO.

So does the DRL Halo stay on all the time when driving, even when you switch the headlights on?

What happens if one of the lights on the ring goes?

Thanks

My preference was to have them on all the time, even with the headlights, but a relay can be easily added to turn the halo's off when the headlamps are on. I guess its just personnel preference.

very talented man that Craig.. Thumbs Up

thanks for the info Prop.

Ryan, these halos can be easily connected to a drl switch [ebay about £8] which will switch them on with the ignition and they stay on with sides and then go off when the headlights are put on..thats how i have my 'leds in fogs' setup..

interesting question Ryan re if one halo goes blink.. ... - .- -.

As to if a ring goes wrong, hopefully that wont happen, the led's seem good quality and I thoroughly tested them before handing them to Craig to fit. As a tip I used a computers +12volt molex supply to run the lights for a few days to make sure they were all good etc.

Generally LED's on there own are very reliable, as these have no other electronics involved like cam-bus etc and are mounted in a solid plastic ring I would imagine they should last 40 to 50k hours, but who knows, I guess anything could fail, its a risk I was willing to take.

Also these run very cool only getting warm to the touch after running for 5 or 6 hours constant which again should help with long term reliability.

i brought some rings from china recently with the intention of inserting them into the fog housing but the build quality of them made me think twice about the project.. ... - .- -.

if you do want to fit these halos yourself , there's an excellent 'how to' in the wiki by Daveo showing how to strip the headlight down..

Cheers Stan... Would love to get stuck in and DIY on this but doubt I'd be able to do this myself... Mrs pld needs the car on the road (you'll appreciate it's had a few rests in recent months already) and if I dismantled it all, it might well still in be in bits by the time the England squad fly home from Brazil after their 3 group matches next summer Rolling with laughter

Other questions for all, if someone could please advise/humour me:

1. If you have the Halo/DRL upgrade done in the headlight units, would you refrain from also doing as Stan/others have done with the front fog lamps or would you have both done (does this add fuel to the 'car or Christmas tree' debate)?

2. If doing the front fog lamps as well as the headlights, does the same manufacturer do the large and smaller Halo's so the finish is uniform on both headlights and foglamps (not sure I've read any members having done both/ apologies if I've missed that)?

3. On the headlight units, for example on our SC, the indicator housing is the vertical orange strip on the outer/wing edge of the unit. Can this be amended/ toned down at all to blend in more, a la a clear unit look, as I often think it looks a tad dated?

Thanks, hopefully, in advance Thumbs Up
