Gary, for future reference i found the same feeling with my TDV8 driving long distance... Changed both diff oils, the transfer box & gearbox oils and it completely disappeared... Thumbs Up

Having an ongoing pay freeze, I can't afford a SC yet. Happy with the td6 for now

2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

You know, I can't argue I love a big powerful V8, my last car had probably one of the finest engines of the last decade and I do miss it, I can understand why people love a smooth powerful V8 in the RR but personally it isn't for me, lets be honest, the fuel economy is terrible and in overall terms it's not that quick and I don't think that sort of power is really needed in an RR which suits a more relaxed driving style, don't get me wrong, it's a great engine and to each their own but I would rather enjoy it in an F Type than have it somewhat wasted in a 3 tonne 4x4.
If someone offered me a brand new L405 for free I would pick an SDV8 over the SC.

Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

I am perfectly happy with my 4.2 SC today and the frequent petrol stop doesnt really bother me for what it made up when it's on the move. However I have to confess I have been eyeing the 5.0 SC and currently waiting for the post 2010/2012 make price to drop to a level I am quite comfortable paying in order to swap the current 4.2. 2006 4.2 Supercharged Java Black - loving it every moment behind the wheel even at 14 mpg!

Interesting as Transfer Box and Diff/Gearbox are pretty much same on Petrols?

I don't know who might be able to answer this on here, but is there a real world difference between the 4.2 and the 5.0?
I'm not talking specs just what you notice.. I guess only people who've been lucky enough to own both can answer but I am seriously considering a supercharged next as the mileage should be dropping to around 6-7k this year. Bushy

MASSIVE difference in my opinion, everything feels different and then there is the extra power.... Cool

The suspension and ride quality of the 4.2SC will feel much like your car (only ever so slightly stiffer) but much quicker

The post 09 cars have a far more refined suspension and ride quality, so the 5.0SC will feel worlds better than the 4.2SC and then there is the difference in power on top Thumbs Up

Thanks Gaz + Craig,

I knew there would be some difference, but as I've never taken a SC for a spin I couldn't guess what it would be.
I looked at the specs and could see the power gains and the 1sec faster 0-60. But being in a oil burner currently I just wanted to know if the car justified paying more for the newer year. Bushy
