It's that age old forum stigma... You generally go on a forum to find out how to fix something... Not to praise things! So, generally a forum seems to be doom & gloom Big Cry Sad Confused Embarassed

Mine just went through at 145,000 miles - like you the drop links were a bit sore, he didn't fail it though - just advised getting them done.

Cost me £27 to buy the drop links (that's both of them) and about 20 mins a side to change them - including a bit of angle grinder action on the seized nuts on one side. So, I feel you were charged a bit steep for the work.

Probably true. Although I'm on first gearbox and second torque convertor.

And I meant to say, hugely happy with what I consider the best car in the world! Is 170k too late to do a facelift? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Never too late for a facelift!

Seriously, I think it depends..........It's a lot of money to pump into something that is reaching retirement.

Then again, if you think it will do another 3 - 5 years and 50k then why not. I've not seen too many FFRRs with over 200k on them though so think about whether the money is better put into something newer. It's buyers market and there is some cheap metal about........... 2006 4.2 SC

Hmm, that's my worry! Not keen on the 06-10 look, and don't want to take on issues with an unknown 02-05 even if lower milage. People use the phrase " ru it into the ground" and with cars from the 80s-90s, that occured when it had a big mot fail with rust usually.

With the FF, I'm not sure what that means. What could go wrong that exceeds the value of the car? No rust in rear arches, no real worries with gearbox for the next 80k... Does a facelift add any real-world value to a car of this milage?

I think the problem with the face lift is the cost to do it properly. If it could be done well for £500 it would be a no-brainer to do it... Otherwise, on a car that is starting to hit the bottom of the curve in terms of value, it's not economical to do it - unless it's for your own pleasure.

Nost people (apart from us anoraks) can only date a car by its numberplate - so a face lift and a cheap plate might make you feel a bit better - but that's all.

Almost all the facelifts we do are for the owners pleasure... Be it they haven't the budget or cannot justify the cost of the newer models? most are done to FF's that owners know, trust & love so just want to keep them looking youthful...

There's a lot to be said for keeping a car you're familiar with. In my case I'd rather get an additional car rather than a newer one. I don't care it looks old, I like the look.

bought mine at 140k now 150k, has had a gearbox, by PO but was a misdiagnosis, -was a bloked cooling pipe! has had rear bushes done by PO and front rear brakes overhaul. car had prinz lpg fitted at 60k, still driving A1. i could never sell it to drive something else. has had a few things, i have sorted all myself. mine is 2002 v8,
I bought with engine failing as timing chain guides had collapsed and fixed myself. roll on 200k!
