SWMBO was driving to work the other morning and experienced a dashboard blackout on our 2010 RR HSE (petrol V. The lights came back on and she saw a transmission fault. The car kept driving for about 3 more miles and it did it again. This time, there was a transmission fault and also a brake fault. She managed to get pulled over to the side of the freeway before there was no power to the transmission at all.
Anyway, had it towed to my Indy and told him what she experienced. Battery was reading 11.1 volts. Alternator went bad. He changed it in less than a day and only set me back $825 USD.

Yep. That was pretty similar to my experience. Xmas lights are a good indicator. ______________________________

Interestingly my alternator just lunched itself .... no lights or drama though .... just started sqealing and then Battery light flickered on and off then stayed off ...... drove ok but then started smoking when the belt got stuck.

Bearings went and snapped the belt but just down the road from home so no bother (although the lack of power steering was interesting when negotiating roundabouts! )

Bought a new water-cooled one for £200 and was fitted including new pulley/tensioner assembly (cheaper than the 2 pulleys on their own!) for £175 so total of £375.
