United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Orkney Grey
Think I just made a big Mistake.

What have i gone and done. So the RR VSE is coming up 4 yrs still has 18 mth warranty on it also even with steps the wife is struggling to get in and out due to very bad hips. so I have put a £500 deposit on a volvo xc70 3 mth old also to be fair the RR general running cost are proving difficult to live with. The problem is I love my RR is the best car i've ever had, I even had it serviced at a inde garage on monday. My wallet says it is the right decission my heart says OMG what have you just done. Please Help

The Volvo is likely going to be a pretty reliable and ok-ish car, although my wife hated the XC-60 seats (it hurt her back) we had last month as a rental car during our vacation.

I assume you can not afford to keep both cars for now ?? If you can, just hang onto the FFRR for a while before selling in case you regret getting the Volvo. There is nothing that drives as nice as the FFRR IMHO and you go from a great car to an OK-ish car. If you are already having doubts, the Volvo is definitely going to disappoint. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Id go and ask for your deposit back. Hopefully there will be a cooling off period?

I was in the same situation as you, ( mine was an older AJV8 coming up n 100k) I decided to sell and be all sensible. I went out and bought a new top of the range Kia Sportage.

The car was exactly what it should have been in all but one area. It wasn't a RR Vogue and I just couldn't live with that. Every mile I did (only about 2.5k) I despised it ever more.

I'm now the very happy owner of a Supercharged VSE. Yes I lost a fair whack on the Kia, yes Vogues are not cheap to buy and indeed run. But I no longer do what I think I should, I do what I want.

You really are a long time dead. Get what you want! Present* 2006 Santorini SC Vogue SE.
Gone* 2006 4.4 AJV8 Zermatt Vogue.
Gone* 2004 TD6 Bonatti Vogue.

I agree with all the comments above, but best you drive what you can realistically afford all the best whatever you decide.

I have some friends who drive the current V70 & XC70 cars professionally - I'm afraid to say they are not terribly reliable. Volvo's just just aren't what they used to be. Or BMW's. Or Mercs, for that matter !

That being said, for your wife's mobility problems, the Volvo is a pretty good bet for comfort.

Have you considered anything else ?

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

Torn between the devil and the deep blue sea, The RR is a fantastic car all thing to all men, but does practicality and money outway it. I just dont know, I feel genuinely sick in my gut at the thought of it going on friday.

Is the decider your wife's mobility/comfort ?
If so, and she's haven't trouble getting in/out, can you change one of the seat's memory setting to assist her when she gets in/out ?

The worst thing I did 18mths ago was selling mine. The best thing was getting another. I know - comments like that don't help, do they ?

Well another of the things I have to consider is when the extended warranty runs out in 18 mth time , what then i'm hopeless with a spanner and from past experience RR can be costly. I had made up my mind it would go then anyway so would i feel the same in 18 mth time. The only concolation is the volvo is completely full loaded only missing the heated wheel, tv not dvd it has a basic dvd and heated rear seats from what my RR has and the money is a good deal.
But as sinade o'conner says. Nothing compares to you.

Thats a fair point. I surpose at the end of the day metal will always be only metal just wrapped up differently.

I agree with Mick as well, no car is worth someone suffering getting in and out. If the Volvo does make it easy for your wife as opposed to the FFRR, than go for it and that is the way it is. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Have you tried access height when parking ?

Can she get in and out of the Volvo more easily ?

I always use access height, It not so much that, more of she struggles to lift her leg high enough to get it on the step where as with the volvo you can slide onto the seat from being stud up. It seams like circumstances have forced my hand some what.
