Probably a Con Ad like about 25% of all AutoT & PH Ads....

Quote:
Dear Gary,

Thank You for your E-Mail.

We are aware of the fraudulent adverts on the site and remove them constantly throughout the day.

The fraudsters use stolen identities and cloned cards to place the adverts which makes it more difficult to detect them. We work very closely with the police and provide them with the advert details from the scams that we remove from our site. It is notoriously difficult to catch the perpetrators because they place the adverts from abroad; this means that the police cannot investigate the matter because it is out of their jurisdiction.

We are doing our upmost to raise awareness with regards to these scams, a safety and security section has been set up on our website which details the various scams that our customers need to be aware of, it also gives excellent buying and selling advice. In addition to this we have our own security protocols which help us monitor each adverts criteria; we are constantly updating this in an effort to combat the fraudulent sellers.

If you would like to discuss this matter in more detail I can be reached on 01925 294614.

Kind Regards,

Mark Weaffer

Legal & Compliance Officer

Gazellio - I think in may be McSwerves (or a member of his family) own car - reading the location and seller details at bottom of the advert!

Question

Nice recovery Laughing

But you do raise a good point regarding dodgy adverts in the classifieds...

A younger / naive work colleague lost £8000 of his hard earned after discovering a 'cheaper than the rest' Ford Focus RS which had been advertised in Auto Trader.

Story was that it was being sold by a member of British Forces stationed out in Germany - dealt with seller over the phone (mobile). Apparently it was cheaper than the others available because of some tax allowance our soldiers are entitled to and he needed to shift it quickly as he was being stationed elsewhere.

Long story short - HPI checked the car, no problems were discovered, he then agreed to bank transfer to buy the car (so as the 'soldier' would then be prepared to drive/deliver car back to the UK) - car never materialised!

Seller disappeared - mobile & bank accounts were cancelled immediately after he foolishly paid the money!

Police involvement proved car did exist but genuine owner had not made any attempt to sell it himself and was found not to be involved in any way. The car in question had always been a UK car and dodgy seller had nothing to do with HM Forces. Bank offered no compensation as foreign account was open / legitimate at time of transfer. Auto Trader said sorry but they could not be held accountable for each and every vehicle advertised within their publication.

To add insult to injury the exact same car was advertised in the same way a few months later!

SO WHAT YOU SUGGESTED GAZELLIO - DOES INDEED HAPPEN! Thumbs Up

Yes it is mine, but there are so many on the market I've dropped the price to get it shifted.

They are quite nice as a daily sports car, but, after a run of 3 Porsche's, its just a bit too much like my company 1 Series (but with 200bhp more).

So to make room for the FFRR the M3 and Defender will have to go.

Only known issues are the rear discs are on there way out, but thats why I've put it on cheap.

Also BMW have just bought out a M3 'Edition' (think CSL'ish), so the Plate (M3 EDT) may be worth more than the car.

Good weekend everyone.
