Wow some great replies, I get what everyone is saying about the recommended tyres. I have driven a fair few RR's over the years and lots of other big powerful cars, however, there is no decent AT tyre for the 20 inch rim. I currently have 255/50R20 Yokohama's on there which were ok for the use at the time but no longer. I have driven this particular TDV8 at 135mph and believe me it had more to give!! So I understand the speed rating. My needs have changed I need a decent tyre that will deal with wet, muddy roads, we get a lot of surface water around here, ice, snow and the odd trip into a muddy field for shooting. (I got stuck last year with Yokohama's ). So is it ok to put a 275/45 on a 20 inch rim that LR recommend a 255/50?? Gone: 2005 4.4 Vogue (LHD) Java Black

If you're bothered, check with your insurer. Simple.

exactly ! @crooked, 275 45 20 General AT fit fine - absolutely no issues at all @ Stan, the tyre calculator is fine for std 275 45 20 tyres. However for the General AT's the tyre size of these is exactly the same circumference as OEM, I measured them and put it down to the extra tread depth of the AT's. Therefore there is absolutely no difference in speedo readings over standard. @ Rosco there are no 255 50 20 in AT at all, if there were I would have fitted them instead of the 275's 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 Last edited by Vogue on 10th Sep 2013 3:38pm. I think it is less a fitment issue and more of a requirement to inform your insurance to put a note on the policy that you are using the different size, they will let you know if they arent happy, and best to discover that first rather than after a prang.

... and assuming the width of the tyre is correct in relation to the wheel its going on, aspect ratio isn't wildly different etc. Lots of variables, all of which will affect the way the car drives to a greater or lesser degree - extremes will be more of an issue nowadays considering calibration of DSC, roll stability control, active anti-roll bars etc. on OEM tyres. |

Just slightly off topic but insurance related. For those of us that use our vehicles off road - particularly in the shooting season when ground conditions can be pretty bad / wet and slippy you need to check that your insurance covers you for off road use.

Agreed, mine is off road 80% of its time towing and other stuff, so as long as insurance know then no problems as yet. I agree if you are onroad most of the time there me be an issue, 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

If they are speed rated above, say, 100mph and one provably does not exceed that speed, is there an issue? |
