Not had any trouble on Nexens in ice and snow over the last few years, but that said I have a set of 18"s with AT Grabbers (not strictly "winter" tyres") ready to go for the winter, and will save the Nexens for the summer months. The ATs are a great all year round tyre too.

If your tyres have M&S (Mud and Snow, not marks und sparks!) on them, they should be sufficient for anything the UK can throw at you.

Disagree. Proper winter the are hugely better in the conditions they are designed for. The standard M+S-marked tyres aren't much good in either. |

It does not matter how many driven wheels your vehicle has, it will obey the laws of physics. Winter tyres have better grip below 7 degrees.

Softer Silica Compound equals more grip on Icy roads (<7d). Simples. |

M&S is a more agressive tread pattern for mud & snow.

I am of the mind that on ice, especially black ice, no tyres would have much chance of you stopping before you needed to. Happy to be proved wrong though with video evidence etc. |

Nokian tyres are an excellent winter tyre, which can be left on the vehicle all year round.

What sort of mileage can I expect from a set of winter tyres?
