Might be a daft question ...

but why do most genuine range rover wheel sets on ebay only come with 4 wheels rather than 5? I'd have thought that when people change/sell etc then they'd sell the spare wheel too (assuming that most people have a full sized spare wheel).

I'm keeping a look out for a spare 20" set to put winter tyres on and there seem to be no 5 wheel sets coming up.

not so much a daft question but an intriguing one..

i think when most upgrade they only buy 4 new wheels/tyres because of the expense so the spare stays where it is..then that set gets sold on, and so on... ... - .- -.

Also,

It doesn't matter what wheel size you have as a spare, as long as it's to original specification. The rolling radius of the OE 18,19 and 20 inch wheels with standard tyres on is the same.

This means that in theory you could put a set of 20" alloys on the car (With the 255/50/R20 109Y tyres) and have an 18" spare in the boot that COULD be used with three of the 20's, as long as it had the OE size tyre on it (255/60/18 ).

Therefore, most people will keep the original spare and just upgrade the 4 corners.

Never seen 20" that narrow. Mine were 275/40/20 but had 295's on it for many years not realising the wrong ones had been fitted. Doh. Thumbs Up TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.

The 275 profile was fitted to the Range Rover Sport but NEVER the Full Fat L322.

Land Rover never sanctioned it, approved it or authorised it, and your insurance company would have something to say about it too. Discovery 4 HSE

My insurance wouldn't give two tiddles as long as the tyres are legal Bow down land rover warrantee are a different matter, just had my cover voided after gearbox problems. Blamed on the 22" wheels as usual. Shame the issue was there when 19" digestives were fitted Censored TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.

Were the 22" wheels bought from LR... What's wrong with your gearbox?

It wouldn't matter to the insurance company if they WERE genuine Land Rover 22" alloys as fitted to the L405, the fact of the matter remains that Land Rover never fitted 22" wheels to the L322, ever.

Insurance companies will look for ANY reason at all not to pay out, so why give them 2 inches? Discovery 4 HSE

Nothing "wrong" with gearbox, had an issue with what appeared to be something slipping and was diagnosed as a faulty valve in converter. Changed the cooked oil, pump and filter and problem resolved but haven't yet had a chance to tow caravan to fully be happy and conclude the matter. This fault was apparent with 19" wheels fitted and as current 22" wheels have only been fitted a few weeks.
Whether the wheels are original or not isn't the issue, the void warrantee due to the wheel size is. As stated, if Overfinch fit 22' wheels without changing any component or software, LR's extended guarantee covers these cars but after market wheels are deemed reason to cancel the policy and labeled the cause of the failure.
As it hasn't cost me a fortune to resolve this I'm content for now but if something major dies, am sure it will be again blamed on the wheels even if not related. TDV8 Vogue SE 2009.
