As the title says, I'm off on a long trip tomorrow and have uploaded a few favourites on to the iPad for the journey. I've been to Maplins and bought an iPad to AV input cable, but can't for the life of me figure how to get sound from the iPad onto the speakers.

Yes I have the IR headsets, but my little ones are too small to wear them.

Any ideas ladies and gents?

I've read through the operating manuals, but have drawn a blank, can it be done?

I've read all three ( Nav, RSE and owners manual-audio section ) books and can't see anywhere that sound can be played.

Is it just not possible unlike the TV?

I'm guessing you have the iPad AV lead that has the three phono plugs on the other end - Yellow, Red & White?

I didn't realise there was an AUX in in the front? Is it the same as the rear, with the RED WHITE and YELLOW plug sockets?

Yes it's the iPad lead with the three coloured jacks on the other end.

Just been out to check, and the car has the AUX in panel at the rear of the centre console. When I plug into that, it shows the movie perfectly on the rear screen and sound through the headset. But my question is, is there a way to play the sound through the cars speakers, like the TV does?

Its just that they're both under 2 and headsets just aren't really an option.

The Aux in, is on the right hand side of the RSE input panel, where the two rows of Red/White/Yellow sockets are.
Then select Aux for the sound on the touch screen.

You need to put the red and white conmectors into a stereo rca to 3.5mm jack converter. Then put that into the aux connector. That will sort it.

Then select aux on the head unit. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Ahhhh. I think the penny's dropped.

I have to assume, but two of the three coloured plugs will be for stereo sound and the other for pictures.

So, if I plug the 2 sound ones into that adaptor you referenced and then put that into the Aux input, it will play through the speakers?

That is for your patience. Electrics are not my thing.
