Hi,

I'm new to RR ownership and, therefore, to this board. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I have a 56 plate RR Vogue TDV8 which I am still exploring. It is fitted with a VentureCam but, as far as I can see, the cam is dead (doesn't turn on out of the dock, and doesn't charge when in the dock - no battery symbol on screen/no light round the 'Range Rover' button on the cam in the dock).

My question is, while I can buy a replacement VC, how can I be sure that it is the Cam that is dead and not some problem with the dock? Do problems arise with the dock failing to charge the cam?

Hello roaldex and welcome.
As you suspected this has been asked many times before. If you type VENTURECAM into the search function you will get all the info you need. Chances are the batteries are dead and will need replaced.  Previously..

Thanks guys. Have found the other threads with loads of info! Time to get a pack of rechargeable batteries and the soldering iron out, methinks!

Just a thought ; you could pop a multi metre across the contacts in the charging socket and see if there is a current ,
One less thing to think about but in all probability its dead batteries from over charging and under use . 2008 MY Supercharged

I've pulled the following quote of mine from a thread I contributed to a while ago, might be worth checking first as well...

If you close up the docking port without the venture cam in and turn on the ignition, you should be able to test the pins to see if you're getting any voltage through the pins.

Try the above and see if that helps at all.

i have just replaced the batteries in my cam as i had the same problem.
i split the case using a credit card to stop any damage.
removed the battery pack and bought some aaa rechargeable batteries.
taped them in a line like the unit i removed and proceeded to solder them like the cam ones.
then tested them at the connections and i had power from the new pace.
placed them in the unit and clamped it together with some clear sealer in the joint.
once it was cured i just cleaned the excess of and it looks like it was never apart.
the unit now turns on fine and the button will flash and i can get the red lights on the front of the cam working fine.
now all i need to do it find out how to pair it with the car as i just get a black screen on the cam area.
