Should i throw in the towel...?

Love our L322 4.4 v8 (03), but its pushing me to my limits. i wanted to put a sledgehammer to it last week.

Ever since i bought it a couple years ago, its had a string of issues, some of which are now resolved i admit, but its a) costs a fortune and b) getting to the point where its always got something wrong Big Cry :
- vacuum piping (done)
- abs ECU failure (done)
- new expansion tank cap (done)
- gearbox wiring loom replaced due to faulty oil temp sensor (done)
- oil leaks continue to persist from engine area (although not bad now), ruined driveway now Sad
- suspension issues (ongoing)
- gearbox cooling issues (ongoing)
- radiator leak (ongoing - could be related to above)
- various plastic clips continue to break (ongoing)
- indicator/side lights clips busted (ongoing)
- front wiper motor not fully covering screen (ongoing)
- sat nav (mk III) drive knackered and needs replacing (ongoing)
- steering column retraction motor occasionally squeaks (ongoing)
- one the lights behind the dash blown (ongoing)

and i fear the list will just continue to grow. I know they are a labour of love, but crickey - my Audi 4.2 hasn't missed a beat for the 5 years ive owned it (its older and with higher mileage)

what do i do guys? sell it and move on or continue? At some point its got to be more reliable after all these bits being repaired?

what you need to remember is that its mainly 'when things go wrong' that get mentioned on the forum..there are many satisfied members with trouble free fullfats...my 2005 td6 was mostly fault free during my 2 year ownership and i'm hoping the same for my recently acquired one . ... - .- -.

I sympathise with you as I've had no end of troubles with my FFRR since buying it last November. Having now addressed all the problems I am trying desperately to sell it on but it looks like I'll have to take a hefty hit by part-exchanging it. Sad

As lovely a motor as it is (when it's running!), I regret to say I would never buy another one. Cheers

Greg

Go ahead punk, make my day........

Trust me most are trouble free but the ones that do go wrong are of course reported on here, a forum designed for Range Rover problems...

Problem free cars go unnoticed but are very common indeed.

Avoid 2002/3 cars especially as these do tend to fault more often.

thing is, after all this - and i get it right, it could give another 2 years of faithful service.

perhaps buying at 65k miles is a bad idea for a FFRR, either buy with less before things go wrong or buy with 100k miles when everything has been done! FFRR 2003 Vogue V8

Having had a 02 plate a 55 plate and a 59, my advise is dont bother with anything older than a face lifted 55 as they are to old and crap money pits. My 55 vogue was a good car but even my current one still has random sensor problems. I love FFRR but wouldn't buy another, I just think for the money there are other 4x4 cars which will do 95% of what we require from a car on a day to day basis for less money. A sad thought even for me. But True.

Most of the issues on mine have legacies from the last owner, with a few own goals from the current owner Whistle Geoff

My 2003 4.4 Vogue has just sailed thru its MOT with only advisory being the rear tyres will need replaced soon. It has 146k on the clock and so far anything that has been an issue has been relatively easy to do (with help from here) and ok on the pocket (probably regret saying this now). It had a good service record when I bought it, mostly indi's and I just make sure I keep it well maintained and on top of any minor issues when they arise. Thumbs Up
