New Jaguar F-type on fire in Belgium

On the 5th of August a Jaguar F-type caught fire at 2:30AM. Car had approx 3.500km and it happened only a few weeks after delivery. Driver noticed a failure and left the car unharmed. Fire brigade had to use foam as water gave supplementary explosions. The pictures don't need any further comment unfortunately. Crying or Very sad

Jaguar send a specialist to investigate the coarse. Too bad for such a nice car.

Jeez. You can see aluminium has a much lower melting point than steel.

When aluminium starts to melt isn't there some part that's fitted to the car that can react with it to oxidise it and thus water makes it worse?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Could well be the case and if so Standard Operational Procedures might have to be updated , I don't think any fire service is as yet were of it as a hazard . 2008 MY Supercharged

I think you're thinking of magnesium. No idea how much magnesium are in modern cars.

I've seen a few cars go up with magnesium in them. A Saab convertible being the most noteworthy. Was like a firework display! My Previous RR's!
