hi yes did the rocker gaskets at the same time but these hard washers seem to have excessively squeezed one corner although no leak. Dan sent some more and half are hard half are softer still hard though.. how flexible should they be if you squeeze at the side should you easily be able to close the circle in the middle? its serious effort to with these...

so bad pcv can either cause excessive vacuum or no vacuum?

I changed the cyclone hoses as well is there any serious pressure here as i couldn't get one jubilee on as the new pipes were oversized its very tight fitting. Current stable:

if the seals are new i wouldn't worry, if you have the metal inserts in place then that should prevent over tightening, you are sure the seal is sitting centrally and if it is the corner near the half moon cut outs that the seal is sitting either side of the half moon?
if it isn't leaking i wouldn't worry, or you can try loosening the cover, pushing the seal in slightly and re tightening.

have a read of the two pages i posted regarding the manometer testing, it tells you there what happens if you get a failed valve. If you have excessive leaks then you may not get the vacuum building at all.

if the pipe is tight on the cyclone it should be ok as you should get vacuum rather than pressure but that doesn't mean as it warms up or ages it will stay as tight, can you not get a bigger jubilee clip, undo it all the way and take the band out to feed it round the pipe if necessary and fix it in place.

Thanks, the rubber grommet how tight were they for you? Could you place the ring on the top then bolt through by hand? I had to use pliers/vice as so tough and Un rubbery... Current stable:

As long as they are not brittle you will be ok, they are quite tough as they will be heated up to fairly high temperature. If you are worried but a Febi one to compare. Try leaving one under the cam cover trim for a journey and then see how tough it is.
If you don’t have any leaks then don’t worry or put your old ones back on and have a look at the cam cover seal. Is it the end with the two cut outs for the cam shafts furthest away from the front ?

They are all brittle and cracked at the bottom when the bolts were pushed through. I can feel the semis are on it’s just that bit of gasket that’s squeezed out I worry about but maybe i shouldnt as it’s just over compressed now I - this is at the top back.

Are you sure that isnt sealer squeezing out, you shouldn't be able to crush the seal that far as the metal liners / shoulder on the nuts in the rubber grommets should make it impossible i would have thought. i put my bolt seals into boiling water first to soften them up or they are very difficult to get over. i did mine in winter.

@UK Marine, prices below for what i paid from Brit car a few years back, Febi Bilstein probably do them as well

You’re probably right but in the description it says for one. Be it one or one set I dont know but I’ll be messaging them for clarification.

It’s too cold anyway to be under the bonnet right now Thumbs Up ______________________________

I took the turbo off my mates TD6 today as the forecast said sunny, got it off ok and then about 1/2" of sleet and snow turned up, nice.

Dan, Unless you can take the cam cover off again and verify the cam cover is not deformed, the bolt seals are all correct with the correct metal inserts in place, the main seal is not twisted, i assume the half moon shapes are sitting either side of the cut out in the head, the gasket is not deformed then i am stumped but i would take it as a win that it is not leaking and just keep an eye on it

I pretty much did that all the other week it seemed to have just crushed and wouldn’t reshape I’m just paranoid it might start leaking oil and I wouldn’t realise then I’ll run out but I need to get over it I suppose Current stable:

Well guess what.... big puddle of oil under the car today and it looks like the gasket may have split where it over compressed what a joke. Typical the gaskets were from bmw and the grommets lr and even though the grommets were at fault guessing I have no recourse for a replacement due to different vendors. Not to mention it being a third time the cover is coming off. Tbh I’ve had enough of this particular job and think I am going to pay an Indy to do it, I imagine it should be under £150 with a new outer gasket just for the one bank and to not waste another Saturday repeating myself I’d pay that... may even get them to do the pcv if they are reasonable. Current stable:
