If you spec up a new one on LR.com it can top out at over 35K.

That's unreal.

I would suspect that most people will purchase the car with very few option. I may be wrong but with a variety of spec levels I would think it would be rare for someone to buy a car like the Freelander fully option Paul

Base model Freelander 2 TD4 manual on special offer here at the moment starting at £30,000. TD4 HSE starts at about £40,000.

Check out the price of new & particularly used FFRR's. You guy's in the UK don't know how lucky you are.
