Turn up, the RRS is on a big plinth in a room to have a look over. Quick briefing, and a drive upto Dunkeld LRE in the SDV6. Swap into another SDV6 RRS for the off-roading, then back into your RRS, down to the old Perth market for a demo of the auto-park feature, and some acceleration/braking/handling tests in the 5.0
Back to Gleneagles.

We had a meal as we finished at 7.30pm, not sure what will happen at the morning event.
Well worthwhile going though Thumbs Up

Sounds good.... They say lunch is provided for us at 12... Did they try the hard sell with you or was it really just a test drive? Previously..

No sales pitch at all Thumbs Up

Get assigned a car, drive to Dunkeld alone, round the off road alone, back to Perth alone. The 5.0 SC demo, they all drove around a track that they made to show off the cars power, brakes and handling. Then back down to Gleneagles alone

Just they way it should be Thumbs Up

Then for a bit of food (if you want) then you are free to leave when you want. There was always someone around to ask questions if you needed more info, or were unsure of anything.
Word of warning though, in the centre cubby box/fridge, there is a box/alarm thing. Don't touch it, or it starts screaming at you Embarassed Laughing

Scotland 2011 Range Rover SE TDV8 Santorini Black

Didn't have an invite but popped into Gleneagles anyway...impressive display of RRS in the driveway must have been at least 30 and although I've seen one in the flesh at Pentland Perth for some reason today they looked slightly bigger and better proportioned than what I remembered, I think they will sell in big numbers especially if they start at £20k less than the Daddy......quite liked it TBH Thumbs Up

Here we go again... Shorter version.. Blame Steve jobs..

Turned up at 09:00 to around 30 RRS parked on the main drive to the hotel.

Treated to breakfast... 2 bacon rolls and a cuppa and a walk around an autobiography. Which was good as my wife had never seen one before.

A quick briefing followed, then we were taken to our cars which were all running and warmed up. The satnavs had been programmed with the days routes.
We had a scotia? Grey SDV6 HSE. I took lots of interior photos with my camera phone but they will not upload, except one.
I normally pick a black/black interior but I loved the black/cream combo of this one.
The interior had a good quality feel to it.

Driving.. Wow. Smooth, quiet and powerful sums it up. It pulls very hard to 90mph and wants to keep going.
It is effortless. It smoothly goes through the 8 speed gearbox. There are flappy paddles but I felt they were not needed to intervene manually to drop a gear as there is so much torque it just goes.
The ride is solid with no body roll. It is so quiet. Cornering is great, it just feels nimble for its size. Pulling away from junctions is as quick as a hot hatch. Very impressed.

We then arrived at Dunkeld and swapped into another RRS for the offroading. Here is the car we arrived in.

Gonna upload this lot then carry on in another post..

We then had a great drive around the offroad track. I let Fiona drive as she really loves the offroading side of landrovers.
This car is remarkable off road. It had standard road tyres fitted. I have driven this track twice in a defender before and I think this new RRS will do everything better. Watching the car infront we could see the articulation of the suspension and it was very impressive. The grip it managed to find in what looked like unclimbable muddy tracks was awesome.
I was very impressed.

The SC...
We arrived at what looked like a builders yard! It was the site of an old auction market.
They had around 12-15 SC's sitting waiting for us. The point of this part of the day was to show us the handling capabilities of the supercharged sport.
They had marked out various tracks for us to experience the SC. The instructor did everything first then handed over to me to try exactly the same.
The first test was from a standing start to reach the highest speed you could by the time you passed a cone... Then slam the brakes on as hard as you could and stop as quickly as possible. The instructor said he would only be impressed if I snapped the brake pedal off!!
This is the first time I have heard an SC engine in full angry mode... Shocked it sounds great...
Next was high speed handling. Standing start, flat out, swerving side to side to show there was no body roll.
Next 30mph towards a large inflatable, then swerve round it as if a kid had just stepped out, to show stability.
Next, standing start, flat out, brake at a marker and swerve around an inflatable to show control under braking.
The instructor talked all the time about all of the systems, he was very knowledgable.
We then hopped back into the HSE and drove back to Gleneagles.
We were met at the door and taken straight to the dining room where they had put on a carvery buffet for lunch.
What a spread they had for us.. Fantastic. Had a great chat with other FFRR fans who were going to jump ship to the new sport.
It really was the best organised car event I have attended yet.

So, would I have one?..... Yes.
Which one?... The diesel, without a doubt. No contest.

The SC was fun, but I just don't think it is any better than the diesel. Faster, hell yes, but that is not what I want in a luxury cruiser. The diesel was plenty fast enough. And the price of the SC over the diesel makes no sense to me.

Great day, great car. Previously..

Not at all jealous.......grrrrrrrrr.

Sounds fab. Looks like the big competition for the FF might just be its little brother.
