Newbie to FFRR's - Does this look like a good deal?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the FFRR scene and I am looking to buy my first FFRR in September this year. I live on Guernsey in the Chanel Islands so not much choice out here so I am looking to buy when I next go up home to Newcastle. I have been doing a bit of perusing of Autotrader etc and came across this

http://www2.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ad...?logcode=p

Can anyone tell me if they think this is worth the money? I have between 18 and 22k to spend but would like to keep some to buy some toys for the RR once I have it!!

This forum has made my mind up that I want a FFRR and not a sport!

Thanks I'd kiss the ground for the welcome sound of me mother sayin 'Hinny Howay'

Looks like a nice example to me. Price seems to be ok for a garage although more knowledgeable people will pop up to advise more accurately.

If you were going for it, I'd go through the service history with a fine tooth comb and see if there any other supporting invoices for other work done.

Rosco your telling me! I drive a flatbed truck sometimes at work and you will be going down a road with a granite wall on your nearside and some old bint will come along the other way and not even mount the pavement to get through!

I dont do many miles over here but travel back home about 3 or 4 times a year, so looking for something to enjoy the drive in and what better than a FFRR!! Mind, ill see the difference in fuel as i currently drive a 2lt Golf GT TDI Shocked I'd kiss the ground for the welcome sound of me mother sayin 'Hinny Howay'

looks ok, though id check the interior trim, it looks well used on the passenger side which is quite unusual, there is no photo of the drivers seat so that may be quite worn,

check to see if it has had things like the alternator changed as these are prone to failure. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Depends on how you drive it TBH but with such a small island and such short journeys the difference won be as bad as you think...

Adams one that just sold would have been perfect for you Smile

TBH if it was me the one your looking at would benefit from getting back to the standard 19" wheels(better for comfort and tyre prices but also you'll still get £700 or not far off for those wheels fitted in good nick, but does depend on tyres fitted and also say about £300 for some 19" rims with good tyres.

A warranty really wont be that great to you where you are unless it covers you there as i cant imagine a non LR warranty covering you very well in the isles and even an LR one would require a trip over to st helier Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

My initial views after looking at the pics:

The 2013 L405 alloys are not in keeping with the age of the car, IMHO don't look right, plus they have the wrong profile tyres for the speedo (255/55/20 as opposed to 255/50/20). If it were me I'd flog those and get an OE set of 20s, plenty out there.

The roof rails are there for keeps, hope you like them, if you remove them you'll probably have to buy new roof inserts and get them painted and fitted, a bit of a pain if you don't like the look.

The Burr wood is a bit old man for me, but those CAN be changed if you want to get 'handy'. I actually think the Cherry wood and black leather is a lovely combo.

Aftermarket DVD in the headrests - not my thing, I avoided cars with that recently and went for one with no RSE at all.

As said before, check out the history very carefully, is it dealer or indy for example.

Otherwise, looks lovely. I know I come across as negative but I spot the things that most don't care about. Discovery 4 HSE

Having looked at too many over the last couple of months, I think it is slightly overpriced for mileage, agree with the previous posts, wheels look wrong, so a cost there, personally and its not an issue for everyone but a tad high on owners for me, you could definitely get a lower mileage, arguably better history VSE for that money, however as you wont be doing many miles a relatively high miler with full LR history would be a great buy, there are a couple on ebay/autotrader at the moment. Have you got a good indy in Guernsey as I can't recall a main dealer there? 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

Hi guys,

Thanks for all of your replies. I didn't really notice some of the things you guys mentioned! Is a high miler worth buying? There looks to be a few decent examples on auto trader with 100k+ for similar or less money than the one I found.

There's a Land Rover stealer in Guernsey, I believe it's part of a franchise call 'Jacksons'. There's no Indy 4x4 people but there's plenty of good garages as Motorsport is pretty important on the island.

Ideally I'd like to have a Vogue SE in black (2006 onwards, I believe that's the facelift model?)

Thanks I'd kiss the ground for the welcome sound of me mother sayin 'Hinny Howay'

As an example, I looked at an 07 Vogue SE in Black/black, 71,000 miles full history, about a month ago, was £18,950 before haggling, went quickly though, another Silver with 57,000 was 08 and 19,950 asking

They do appear..... Thumbs Up 2013 L405 Autobiography Baltic Blue

Thanks Rosco, those both seem canny deals compared to the ones I'm looking at! I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled. Problem being that its difficult to get across and see any hence why it will be September although I'm not going to buy for buying's sake. I'd kiss the ground for the welcome sound of me mother sayin 'Hinny Howay'
