Suspension Compressor test

Are there any guidelines / test that can be done to prove the compressor is working up to scratch or not. I was thinking in the line of timing how long it takes to go from access to normal, normal to off-road, access to off-road etc. Mine seems to be working fine but I do have a new piston ring sitting on the shelf and wondering if I should change it or leave it alone. I also have an iid tool so again, what test can I do with it for example, what pressure should it sit at, how long should it take to build up etc.

Can't help with times as my heights are far from standard but it will tell you when it's not doing it quick enough, it's a specific fault....

No harm in changing the piston ring.... easy job... Thumbs Up Pete

Cheers Pete, just might change it anyway. I don't know if the compressor is overworked or not as I have never even heard it run as its its in its original insulated enclosure under the spare so that's why I was wondering if there were any tolerances that it should work within. I might do some testing on it first, change the ring and then test again and compare. Thumbs Up

Yes there are some sad people, like me Whistle

Going out this morning, I was not in a rush, so I took some timings on my 2006 322, the following timings are below, between each operation to raise the car, I left about 10 seconds each time -

Started car, waited for one minute, then - Timing from operating switch to 'In operation' light going out.

Access..to road height... 7 seconds
Road to off road........... 9 secs
Off road to road........... 9
Road to access..............8
Access to road...............9
Road to off road............12
off road to road.............8

As for as I know, I think the car still has the original compressor and has now done 95000 miles.

Thanks Merchy, this OCD must be a Merchant Navy trait!

My timings below in parenthesis. I was keeping up well until the second off road cycle, I'm assuming my compressor is getting tired after 130k.

Maybe get an over haul kit, not too big a job, more fiddly and time consuming than difficult, especially with the you tube guides Thumbs Up

You may be right about the OCD thing Whistle

In the engine room are a thousand and one special tools for the engines etc, sometimes you need them in an emergency, so if the guys do not return them ( Cleaned ) to the designated storage place after use I tend to go a bit mascara with them. Rolling with laughter
