United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Zermatt Silver

It's a lovely looking FF and there's a lot of good detailing there, but the alloy colour (to provide a counterpoint) isn't to my own taste, although I accept it's a job very well done. Thumbs Up

You've just got to keep it looking that way now. Laughing Si. <This is my name.

Well spotted. Looks like one of the previous owners decided to spray them red/brown. I've removed them all and bought some nice black and silver enamel ones from Ebay to fit.

Total cost was £500. I know it sounds a lot but the guy had my car for a full two days.

Outside was washed, clay barred, machine polished to correct the paint, polished, nano sealant and finally waxed.

The engine bay was cleaned and dressed and the interior was done too. The leather seats started off being really shiny due to cheap silicone cleaner being used on them. The seats were all cleaned down properly and are now a more natural matt black.

I know it sounds like a lot of money but I truly think its a good investment on any vehicle. Even new cars benefit
from such work.

Going forward, I'll only need bi monthly top up details at around £150 a time.

Also, I am pretty anal with my cars and wouldn't really let just anyone touch it.

actually I don't think that's a lot. The result gave an absolutely fantastic finish to the car and I think made it look superb. May well be following your example!!

Bow down

To be fair, once you've had the major correction done, upkeep is fairly simple. I just wash mine with a decent quality lamps wool mitt, try and use two buckets - one for loading up the mitt with suds and the other to rinse. Then I just dry it off with a microfibre cloth. Then finally I just use a quick detailed to spray on all labels and buff. I stay away from any other car wash be it an automatic supermarket one or the hand wash guys.

Detailing is an easy hole to fall into though. If you go into the Detailing World forum, you can see guys who clean out door hinges with cotton wool buds...

Just a note regarding automated car washes: This week a very good friend had an old Audi A6 of his written-off at a Tesco (IMO) car wash in Suffolk. It destroyed the bonnet, wing, scuttle and smashed the windscreen.

But you're right, detailing is very obsessive. I find that once I've gone beyond the normal clean, I look for other areas to improve. I have to stop myself from going too far and, these days, just limit myself to ensuring my cars are decently clean.
Still, door hinges; a spray bottle of dilute APC, a new Harris 1" paintbrush and 45 minutes or so is time very well spent! Thumbs Up Si. <This is my name.
