Thanks ebajema, but your discription does not sound any like anything that I saw under the bonnet.

If it's like the TDV6 cover you need to take the oil filler cap off first |

Goto lrparts.ru and head to the online catalogue (bottom of page, middle link). Navigate to the engine section (third picture along) and then look for your engine. Hovering the mouse over each picture tells you what it is. Click on the 4.4 tdv8 one and itll show you an exploded view. Find the view with the engine cover on and it'll show where any clips /screws go.

I don't have mine at home with me at the mo but I've taken mine off before and I seem to recall gently but firmly pushing up under the cover at the front, a little in towards the middle from the sides. I think there were two pegs under the cover, pointing down that push into large rubber o-rings. The back of the cover below the windscreen is secured by two plastic tongues on the back edge of the cover locating in two slots.

I'm just back from my garage having taken a combination of TheAllSeeingPie's link to the drawings and ebajema's advice managed to remove the engine cover. So simple when you know how. Even managed to replace it after a struggle due to restricted space to work.
