Wont start after fitting new battery

It all started when my 57 Range Rover tdi 3.6 failed to start when being left for a couple of days without driving it so yesterday I took the battery to a local auto electrical firm who confirmed the battery was kaput.

After charging my brand new battery and fitting it this morning it won't start and I just get a click when I turn the key to the starter position.

With the old battery whenever I charged an re-fitted it the car started first time.

Is there any reset procedure or anything anyone else can suggest before I call the main dealer?

I guess it is possible the starter motor has failed but it seems a big coincidence

Confused

Have you tried With jump leads? Could be that Your New battery isn't strong enough. ----------

Are you sure the terminals have been tightened up enough? It sounds like a bad connection... Thumbs Up Previously..

Hi Guys

Thank you for the advice, I will check the terminals for tightness and try and jump start from the trusty Defender in the morning.

It may look like your alternator makes a massive short
and battery drain

Hi Guys

Battery terminals are super tight and makes no difference when I try to jump start it.

Looks like its a call to the main dealer Sad

One of the mechanics at my local garage said there may be a battery disconnection / reconnection sequence but I don't see anything about that in the handbook.

Crying or Very sad

There is a battery disconnect procedure - it's in the wiki

I would disconnect according to the procedure, check the new battery is charged with a multimeter (search for threads on here as I'm not 100% on the process) then reconnect and see what happens.

Don't forget to 'reset' the computers by turning the wheels to full lock on both sides and holding at full lock for a couple of seconds (it's in the battery disconnect wiki)

Good luck! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!
