Spare wheel - full size or space saver?

Anyone here have the space saver which comes a standard, and if so any comments? Does it free up useful storage space in the boot? Trying to weigh up this possible gain versus the value for money and convenience of a full size for an extra 200 pounds. In 8 years I think I have used the spare in my L322 once so am tempted to stick with the factory fit. Norman

Having once being forced to complete a long journey home on a space saver @ 50mph, I'd deco go for a full size spare if it fits OK

NormanP, get a full size one! 4 weeks ago I was in Italy and drove over a metal piece which killed the right back tyre. I was happy I've ordered a full size one!!!

I've gone for a full size spare. I asked the question as to whether it fits under the boot carpet, and apparently it does, so it was a no brainer for me.

Would still like to know if the space saver which comes a standard frees up useful storage space in the boot? Yes, I get the advantages of a full size spare Smile Norman

My space saver had two polystyrene blocks placed under it to bring the wheel up to the same height as a full sized one. No idea why but it does create space below the wheel which can be used as storage. I have since fitted a full sized wheel and there's still storage available around the periphery of the tyre. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

If you had to use the spacesaver I would have thought the space would be able to accommodate the punctured full size wheel that would need stored until repaired.. Thumbs Up Previously..

Thanks, that's helpful. Norman

Not on all cars - I used to have a Subaru Impreza with a space saver - Censored annoying when I had a blowout in the rain - had to empty the boot to get the spare out, changed the wheel, then realised that the punctured wheel wouldn't fit, so took up a chunk of boot space, so some of the (now wet) stuff from the boot needed to go in the (full) car Rolling Eyes
