2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black
Newby Qs - 2005 Vogue TD6..

Hi All,
Just put a deposit down on my first RR - it's a 2005, 54 plate Vogue TD6 with the touchscreen sat nav, It's my first RR (first 4x4 for that matter) and am looking forward to a different pace of motoring having had quick cars since I passed my test 15 years ago.

I have a few Qs and would appreciate your input.

1.) Will the bluetooth work with my iPhone 3GS and if not, can this be fixed.
2.) Is there any way of getting an aux input or ipod interface as an alternative to the CD changer.
3.) I am going for a proper look at the car on Wednesday morning (popped in on my way home on Friday and fell in love so have left a holding dep subject to a proper inspecion) - it has done 68k miles and the last service was at an indy rather than a main dealer. What should I look out for in particular and is it worth getting an RAC or similar inspection done? It is at a non franchised dealer but he has said he'll rectify anything major that needs doing.
4.) He has offered me a third party warranty that he claims is very good - would this be £490 well spent?
5.) The TV seemed to just say that it wouldn't work while the vehicle was in motion, even when I was parked up. Is this me being thick or does it sound like a fault?
6.) The car has a plug in chip of some sort (couldn't see in the dark) - are these mostly the same or are there some I should look to avoid.
7.) What year dd the facelift happen? How can I tell if this is a facelift car or not?

I think that's it for now!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Chris

At that age it won't be facelifted. It's 2006> for facelifts.

The older cars have square headlamps and wipers fitted to them.

Don't see anything wrong with a service at an Indy, certainly wouldn't put me off as these guys are usually LR trained anyway.

If it's got a plug in remap chip then it's easily removed. Personally if it's a decent make I'd leave it as its only something the Td6 really needs tbh.

The TV more than likely won't be working due to the digital switch over. This can be rectified however costs around £300.

Finally have a look what's covered in the warranty, you may find better for the money. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

Thanks for the input guys. The car has been advertised with a TV - do you think I could get him to upgrade to digital or offer me a discount if the TV won't work?

Here is a couple of pics!

I was sold purely on the looks TBH. I went to look at a 335i at the dealers and just saw this and fell in love! Have always liked Ranges but didn't go out looking for one.

Nice looking car and welcome, glad you found us: Thumbs Up

The car as said by others is a pre facelift with touch screen (like my Father's car). The TV may never work if the digital switch has happened in your area, I think you could use that as a negotiating piece with the dealer.

No need to worry about the service history, as logn as it was done on time and using genuine parts all will be fine.

Your iPhone may work fine, some people have trouble with bluetooth connections (not just iPhone, but any make or model)

It looks to have Range Rover Sport alloys, therefore its worth checking the tyre sizes: Range Rover sport 20" tyres are the WRONG size, load and speed rating for the FFRR. If they are 20" tyres the specifications should be 255/50/20 109Y. As its a non LR dealer he's unlikely to swap them for you but you could use this as another negotiator.

Its worth your while reading the following thread:

2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

2005 is the change over year, although marketed as the 2006 model.

Here we have a number of changes that evolved throughout 2005. There are many cars, like the one you have just bought, that do not have the facelifted outer treatment, but do have the Denso touch screen satnav.

So, do you have the touch screen, or the earlier BMW unit? Depending on which you have will determine what you can do with your iPhone. Java with Ivory 2006 4.2 Supercharged. 23.5k miles - NOW SOLD!

Thanks for all the info. I didn't realise they were sport alloys but the advert claimed it had new tyres so I'll certainly check what it has. What are the problems if the tyres are off a sport?

It has the touchscreen sat nav and seems to have all the toys although I am unsure which were standard.

From memory it has

Comfort seats
Front and rear seat heating
Xenons
Logic 7
Sunroof

cheers

Chris

All those things are standard for a Vogue but that's not a negative point by any stretch.

The point about the RRS wheels and tyres is that they are not the oens LR specify for this car, period. The lower profile tyres will mean your alloys are more likely to get damaged, the driving dynamics will also change as the tyres are fatter and wider, you may notice more road noise too.

The reason I stuck my neck out and got the dealer to replace the tyres was a point of insurance too, if you had a crash, could you hand on heart say that your insurance company would not use the fact that it had been 'modified' with lower profile tyres (against manufacturers specification) and thereby not pay out?

It's up to you, I've seen lots of older FFRRs with Sport wheels and tyres simply because you can get them easily and quite cheaply. However, if you know where to look you can get a set of genuine LR 20" alloys with brand new tyres for about £800. Then you can sell your Sport alloys and tyres (there are billions of sport owners who will buy them without blinking) and a new set of tyres and wheels become quite cheap. Discovery 4 HSE

I think I actually prefer the look of the Sport wheels TBH! Looking closely at the photos it looks like it has 40 profile tires but I can't make out the width. The wheels have just been refurbed too so might just change the tyres.

Any idea if I can do some sort of iPod interface other than an FM modulator system?

Cheers

Chris

Don't forget that the sport wheels are also different dimensions too. And, there are loads of replica range rover sport stormer wheels out there, whose quality and ability to withstand the range rover under load are dubious.

It's your choice clearly but if it were mine I'd have them off. Discovery 4 HSE

There are "Loads" of RR wearing Stormers and I think they look quite good if you like 20" wheels. I had the Standard Vogue 20" wheel above but had to get rid of them as I really dislike them. I replaced mine with 2010 19" TYPE8 Alloys but have had a previous RR with 20" Black/Polished Stormers and they worked fine with 275/40 R20 although the rolling radius was a little smaller. The tyres were TOYOS and the ride was smooth & quiet.

You do have to be careful with after market "Replica" Alloys as mentioned above as they are more likely to crack etc than the OEM Wheels.

I'll check it all out in more detail on Wednesday but am erring towards changing them if they are the wrong dimensions and certainly if they are replicas.

Do they do a similar style wheel for the FFRR (I am getting to grips with the lingo now!).

Cheers

Chris
