Shields Land Rover

I write to inform you that following his decision to retire from the motor industry, Shields Land Rover has been purchased from

Joe O'Donnell by Lookers Motor Group Ltd, part of Lookers plc.

As you may be aware, Lookers already operates the Land Rover franchise in Glasgow and Motherwell trading under the Taggarts banner. The company is delighted to be further strengthening it's relationship with Land Rover by extending its representation of the brand in the Glasgow area.

So, as a valued customer of Shields, what does this mean to you?

The short answer is absolutely nothing negative. All staff in the Shields Land Rover business in South Glasgow will remain in place meaning that your established contacts will remain the same. In other words, you can continue to enjoy the highest levels of service you have come to expect from the very well established team in the business.

In fact, there are likely to be many additional benefits to you. With over 130 dealerships across Great Britain and Northern Ireland, economies of scale and buying power mean more affordable deals for our customers and a much wider choice of Pre-owned vehicles.

Initially, it is our intention to retain the Shields name and thereafter, the well established Taggarts name will be adopted allowing for consistency in communications across the Glasgow market. We will, of course, keep you informed as to when this takes place.

I do hope that you will continue to support the team at Shields Land Rover throughout this transition and will continue to be a loyal customer of the Shields / Taggarts business in the future.

Finally, in recognising your loyalty to the business, I would like to take this opportunity to offer you a Free Summer Safety Check on your current vehicle. Please just contact the service team on the usual number to make an appointment at your convenience.

Kind regards

Yours sincerely

Gordon Haining

Yes, got the same letter. Not happy...... had bad experiences with Taggarts, although that may be down to the abilities of the service manager and staff. 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE Java Black

I've always found the service department to be the better arrangement within the Taggarts dealership, but when you consider how dire their sales department is I guess there's no battle. I've always bought from Shields because I despised dealing with Taggarts, lets just hope Shields dont get dragged down to Taggarts level!

We've used Shields ever since we've had Land Rover's but have recently moved to Taggarts.

So far they seem really good, service department couldn't be more helpful and the pricing at Taggarts is substantially cheaper then Shields for exactly the same thing!

Service plan for the 4.4 TDV8 from Shields was £400 deposit and £50 a month for 4 years. Taggarts were £300 deposit and £30 a month for 4 years. Both plans were the same official Land Rover service plan.

Car went into Taggarts and came back with a complimentary 1 litre top up bottle of oil in the footwell and a complimentary box of shortbread.

The only surprise we ever got from Shields was "your car needs this and it's not yet ready" or "we've not been able to find a fault with that, Sir".

The parts guys at Shields have always been great, the girls on the service desk are always very pleasant but we've always found the sales staff utterly useless.
