One thing that sticks in my mind is if you power up the DVD from the front screen, you lose the ability to use the remote. If you power up from the remote, then you should have full functionality. Java with Ivory 2006 4.2 Supercharged. 23.5k miles - NOW SOLD! |

Batteries were dead, but changing them hasn't helped - can't get the remote to do anything and indicator red light suggests that it seems to be 'on' all the time. Might explain why the new looking batteries were dead.

You may have a faulty remote, but check all the buttons are releasing if you have a constant red light. It is not unknown for some sticky drink to be spilled over the remote and one or two of the buttons stick (ask me how I know).

Thanks all. I'll try out the power-up from the remote advice and also check for any stuck buttons. However, it looks, in any case, like I'm going to have to get the DVD changer checked out - I'm still getting an intermittent error message and the system jams up. Once it's done that I struggle to get the cartridge back out, as one of the platters jams in the engaged position.

I always thought you just adjusted the volume for each source via the conventional method - the system then remembers this for next time? Java with Ivory 2006 4.2 Supercharged. 23.5k miles - NOW SOLD! |

Mick, I am trying the remote from the back of the car - honestly! No joy though - I think it's dead.
