Now that there's finally a window in this persistent rain, I'm off outside in a minute to have a play and see if I can work out all the final bits and pieces.

A couple of problems seem to have emerged so far. The DVD cartridge seems to be a bit flaky - I had a major problem yesterday with the thing failing to load and I got a blue screen, 'mechanical error' message. I then couldn't get the cartridge back out (it looked like one of the trays wouldn't disengage), but I finally got it out after 10 minutes or so - albeit with a bit of judicious assistance. I then put it back in and got the blue screen error again. Finally success at the third time of asking and it's now working, but I've left one of the trays empty. Anyone else had problems with the multichange? I'm not too bothered, as it'll be covered by Land Rover warranty, but it's still a pain.

The second one is that I can't work out the remote for the rear screens. It could be the batteries (although they seem to be brand new Duracells). I'll change them and see how I get on, but am I doing anything wrong? I've unlocked the thing from the front screen and set the rear switch, but nothings happening.

And the final question - is the Freeview viewer just pants? I'm in a strong reception area, but I've yet to see anything that looks better than a blizzard and only ever seem to get Channel 4 and 5. I didn't buy the car for the TV, but I thought it would be better.

Batteries were dead, but changing them hasn't helped - can't get the remote to do anything and indicator red light suggests that it seems to be 'on' all the time. Might explain why the new looking batteries were dead.

Any ideas anyone please?

Also how do you get into the volume menu on the main screen? I thought you pressed and held the 'Tone' button, but that doesn't do anything.

Off to buy some new cleaning kit now!

You may have a faulty remote, but check all the buttons are releasing if you have a constant red light. It is not unknown for some sticky drink to be spilled over the remote and one or two of the buttons stick (ask me how I know).

I'm not sure what you mean by volume; are you referring to the volume output for the DVD player through the speakers, or the headsets?

Volume through speakers is via the rotary control on the main unit (left one).

Thanks all. I'll try out the power-up from the remote advice and also check for any stuck buttons. However, it looks, in any case, like I'm going to have to get the DVD changer checked out - I'm still getting an intermittent error message and the system jams up. Once it's done that I struggle to get the cartridge back out, as one of the platters jams in the engaged position.

By volume control I meant the volume set up menu. This is a screen from which you can set up preferences for volumes of sat nav, phone, speed sensitive volume, etc. My manual says I should press and hold the 'tone' button, but nothing happens.

Mick, I am trying the remote from the back of the car - honestly! No joy though - I think it's dead.

As for the volume set-up, I hold the tone button until the display goes back to the previous screen, but no access to the volume menu.

I'm not too worried I suppose; the DVD cartridge is jamming as well, so I'll just get it back in to Landrover and let them sort it out.
