Hi all

I recently noticed a squeaking noise on my 2007 L322 (50.000 miles on the clock, FSH, very good shape under, inside and out)

I never noticed the noise with the windows up but now with the warmer days, I found out about it: if I open the windows it is very noticeable and very annoying.

It seems to come from the rear "axle".

The noises is really a kind of squeaking you would get from a rubber bushing rubbed against metal, or two pieces of Styrofoam against each other.

It is not present while just rolling on N, driving on D on smooth grounds, but really squeaking when I roll on a pothole, turn a tight cover at slow speed, drive up a sidewalk, or even simply drive on the smallest bump.


I did have the vehicle quickly checked last Saturday with all bolts and bushings checked and retighten, with no luck.

This morning I did spray all the rubbers and bolts and drove it around, again with no luck.

The indy needs to have the vehicle for a while but may have to start to work on this in steps, i.e.: change the shock absorber, hoping this is the problem. If not, then change all other bushings, again hoping this is it...

This could be expensive without even fixing it.

Any help appreciated if you have experienced this or have any clue how to fix it.

Probably your lower ball joint, easy way to check is to puncture a very small hole in the rubber and spray some WD40 in the hole with a straw attachment and voila it should shut up immediately, if not, put a blob on PU sealant over the hole to make it water tight and move on to the next... This is not a fix! It will need replacing, just an easy way to diagnose which part...

Had it on mine as well, went away after the front suspension bushings were replaced (badly worn rubbers). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Often comes and goes with the rain too! Water is a lube after all

Any tips on how to find out if it is the upper or lower one before unbolting bits and ordering the parts (or should I change both while at it?)

upper one is 35 pounds from LR, lower one 30.

I just talked to the indy's boss who checked it Saturday and he confirms it comes from the rear right side, not from the front at all as there is no play whatsoever in the front lower ball joints.
