Mobile broadband

Bit of a long story but work have taken our internet off us due to new company and new restrictions etc. So were looking at ways to get our lives back while on nights. Im ok as i have my phone with 3 with all you can eat data but the other guys are thinking about getting a Mifi hotspot thingy. The amount of download isnt the best, for heavy users. Is there a difference in speed between these Mifi things and tethering with a 3G signal? would the cheapest option be to buy a cheap sim free deal with all you can eat or does anyone know of a better way? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

If you or anyone has an Android phone then the phone will act as a mini hotspot. I cant remember how many devices can connect to it, but quite a few...

The only downside is it will eat the power so make sure you leave it plugged into the charger...

No matter what you use, check the terms of the data allowance carefully. The Unlimited ones are always without fail subject to their fair usage terms. Generally 500mb to 1GB... Some of the Data only tarrifs allow upto 3 or 5GB but they are pricey.

I know Voda charge me £7.50 for every 500MB I use over my unlimited 500MB!

How strict is your work as there are much easier ways round it that don't involve much cash Wink

PM if you want as its something i dabble with at work for various reasons Very Happy

The mifi dongles are good as it means a few devices can share at once but the more that use it the quicker the data allowance is used and the slower it gets Sad

Also depends on signal where you are as well as networks can vary massively. Just because you get a good phone signal doesn't mean you get a good data one Sad

Ones that allow an external antenna to be plugged in are great as well as you can boost weak signals then!

I'm currently with 3mobile on a one-plan which has a real unlimited data allowance. I've used over 8gig using my iPhone as a hotspot. So lots of football, I player and streaming and still not had an issue. It's been so good a few others have moved to 3 for this reason. The others are tied into contracts etc hence the idea of mifi etc.
Pleb will PM you. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

The best way to do this is to use your iPhone. You can connect up to 5 devices to your iPhone via wifi (the same as a MiFi type device or any other smartphone).

Your One plan is truly unlimited data included as standard so you could allow your colleague to connect to your iPhone. I suppose it is up to you whether you take payment or not... 06MY 4.4 V8 Autobiography Cairns Blue with Navy & Parchment Interior

I use a 3 MiFi router as I am based on client sites. It works a treat and unlocking it for networks is as easy as running a couple bits of software (at least the E585 model was). I prefer the MiFi router over using my phone as a hotspot. The latter chews through your battery and in the case of my old HTC Desire, made it run pretty hot.

I have a 3GB PAYG SIM which I use between my work laptop, iPad, and iPhone (Vodafone 3G blackhole) and I still have 1.5GB after 4 weeks. The data allowance is good for 3 months. The 3GB top up costs £20 from a 3 shop but you can them on fleabay for £10-13. Paul

you'll find the Samba sim won't give you much coverage and runs slow. I have found the 3gb for 3months offer from 3mobile to be the best as it runs at a much higher speed and 3 data network is pretty comprehensive

I also have been told 3 have the best coverage and will be getting one of there current packages based on 1gig 30 days, 3gig 3 months and 12gig 12 months all available off Flea bay... ranging from £8 to £55 in price..

You could get an unlocked mifi dongle and then look at an ovivo SIM card and just put up with some free ads sometimes Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
