Well the car key fairy has visited my house and hidden my car key!!

I have looked everywhere (apart from where she has hidden it).

I'm hoping it will turn up - but it's just possible that i dropped it on the drive, and someone has nicked it.

This gives me 2 problems;

1 - I need a new spare key

2 - I'm slightly concerned someone will return to steal my pride and joy

I have used the guide here for re-pairing the remaining key with the car. Does that "lock out" the lost key? And does that mean that the other key if found will not remotely unlock the car? If someone tried to open the car with the key itself - would it set off the alarm and would it still start?

Is it possible to reprogram another key (eg from ebay or breakers) to my car without going to the dealer?

I think i know the answers and am not going to like them!!


Also - on a side note - any suggestions for where the key fairy has hidden it??!!!

I just tested my unpaired spare and the alarm went off once I unlocked and opened my door so I think you will be safe from having your car stolen using the old key.

Edited to say I just realized that the alarm may switch off when put the un-paired key in the ignition I will have a try of that after SWMBO finishes her power nap. I will report back asap.

You will need a new key from the dealer I think. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

good thinking batman! i never thought of that. I will check now - i don't remember adding it as an extra but might be worth a try.

Just checked - it was an optional extra which i did not opt into. Might be worth considering next year though!

if you are worried that someone will come and relieve you of the range the disconnected one of the battery terminals.. ... - .- -.

Good idea- bit of a nuisance though.

if you re-sync the key you have it will knock out the central locking operations of the lost key so if some one has it they will not be able to open the car from a distance but they can open the door the using the key in the lock. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

The un-synced key does disable the alarm once used to start the car I'm afraid, I just tested mine. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

Thanks guys. Well good to know anyway. If I hear the alarm I'll be out like a rocket....

Anyone got any cheaper way of getting new spare apart from dealer? How much does it cost at the dealer??
