I dispair with our 'computer says no' society - there is clearly a problem with the car!

What happened to good old fashioned common sense and resolving customers problems??

Again, good luck getting LR to fix it, but really given the cost of a FF they should be doing a bit better! 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Just a thought.
When "low voltage" is displayed have you or anybody else ever checked to see what the actual battery voltage is at that point.
A simple voltmeter or multimeter across the battery terminals would suffice. Thumbs Up

The problem is that the computers only give you a limited (very limited) amount of information. It is up to the mechanics/engineers to determine what the problems are. I have found that most of the time the computer gives you just a small hint but that the problem is determined by good old fashioned thinking and help from the FFRR forum Smile

Problem with the ECUs these days, you don't know what the functionality is. In other words you don't know how things are supposed to work, which sensors are used when, in combination with etc. etc. So actually that makes it harder to fault find.

While cars have gotten more efficient and comfortable and luxurious, they have also become much more complicated making it harder to fault find once a problem develops. Now the firmware and the ECU usually keep going but sensors and wiring still fail quite a lot and in ways it is hard to find out what exactly they are doing without using additional test equipment.

We are still quite far from the Star Trek Enterprise computer telling exactly what the problem is and how to resolve it (if it knows why can't it resolve the problems itself is my big question but hey, it makes for nice evening entertainment). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

There is a set of functions that monitor battery voltage that can be changed or disabled. Wiggs on the disco forum disabled his on his new disco4 after my suggestion of adjusting it down Smile

I reckon the lr update adjusts just the fbh timer but doesn't fix the crux of the issue and allow the gam battery to deplete to a lower level, which would actually still allow charging and work well being agm as they charge so much quicker than a normal lead acid battery so they can take the punishment. Ideally you need someone with a sdd or msv2 that can talk to your ff and knows what they are doing to help you slowly adjust the sensitivity down. Ideally you want to to be no lower than enough to provide 15-20seconds of continuous cranking before slowing down too much, which in a ff is enough for two decent cranks of the engine IMO. I'd offer my diag help but my own msv2 won't cover your ff Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

what a Censored Censored attitude.
so when your central heating breaks down at home, and you have paid lots of money - your plumber says to you: what do you want to use your heating for anyway? in medieval times, people used to get home earlier and build big smokey fires inside their drafty houses.....

i had the same problem. Exactly the same symptoms. 2 dealers told me all was fine in conjunction with Land Rover Technical - and basically they all lied to me.
I wrote to the chairman and then dealt with Jason Stuart at Gaydon HQ. He initially was not that helpful. Eventually however, he sent a team down from Gaydon HQ and they sorted my vehicle. There has not been a problem since.
For what it is worth, the cycle of th FBH on the new software is 17 minutes and 50 seconds. You have paid several hundred pounds to have a working FBH - so you want it to work.
J Stuart's phone number is 01926649547. I suggest you call him.

Now back to Paul Tyrer - so when you go into a restaurant, and order wine with your meal and nothing comes - so you ask "where is the wine". If you got some smart alec response from the waiter about why you wanted wine - you would probably feel like a little irritated. Same as you saying what do you want to use something you have paid hundreds of pounds for.... Censored Censored Censored

Whoa! Hang on a minute!
All I was trying to say was is pre-heating on a car in the UK really necessary? That's all just an opinion.

No offense intended

Just found this:
"The Driver and the Environment. You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road. Generally, if the vehicle is stationary and is likely to remain so for more than a couple of minutes, you should apply the parking brake and switch off the engine to reduce emissions and noise pollution. However it is permissible to leave the engine running if the vehicle is stationary in traffic or for diagnosing faults."

I think you might be missing the point entirely here , the Fuel burning heater should be regarded as a vital pice of car safety AND environmental protection .
First it warms the cabin and clears the screens making the car safe to drive straight away on cold frosty mornings and once the engine is started it continues to burn bringing the engine up to operating temperate quicker and thus emitting fewer emissions ( I know the TDV8 doesn't work quite like this but for the sake of this argument )

Therefore useful and a safety feature so if it can't operate properly whats the point ? 2008 MY Supercharged

Not of course to mention if you leave it running even on your drive and you are not in it and it gets taken !

Also of course so much better for a car not having to be started on freezing cold fluids during the winter and better on fuel not driving when its cold so equals itself out on MPG, and of course FBH also can be used to cool / vent the car on hot days Far to many gone...

Just checked the old one fitted to my 2006 4.4 petrol (I still have it in teh garage as it was holding charge - I must throw it out now.) And that was a Varta Lead Acid battery and it was 110 AH

I swapped it for a Yuassa 110 AGM battery with no problems at all and it went through two winters.

When you say it's working what do you mean?

Can you hear the fan blowing or can you feel heat blowing through the vents? At the present temperature all I can feel from mine is the fan working - no heat from the vents - outside temp tonight was 12 C
