Intercooler 'X' rings - help needed.

Hi, I have posted this on another forum as well, but I'm spreading the net as wide as I can.

I've got a bit of a problem here that I'm hoping someone can solve. I have just replaced the intercooler on the L322 but there are 2 'X' ring style seals that fit in the adaptor between the boost hoses and the intercooler. One of these was U/S and when I first enquired about them, I was told by the Stealers that they came with the intercooler. I didn't buy one from them as it was $800 cheaper overseas. The part came - it is an OEM part, in a LR box, made in Germany. To my surprise there were no seals in it.

I contacted the supplier who checked several other boxes and confirmed that they didn't come with the intercooler - he thought as well that they did, but it seems that at some stage they have changed this.

I also rang the Stealers back and asked them again. They said they USED to be included, but are not sure now. They don't stock of the intercoolers, so they can't check...

Now it gets harder, as no one I have talked to can even find a part number for these seals. They don't come with the intercooler any more and they don't come with the boost hoses.

Tried the local bearing wholesalers who sent the seal to a specialist who has been unable to match it or supply an alternative. They can make some for me but I would need to order at least 1000 units...

SO - does anyone know the part number, or know what may work instead, or have an old intact unit lying about they want to sell me?

I've got a car going no where because of a small seal...

Cheers - Gav.

2 problems - Firstly Microcat mentions hot climate boost pipes are a different part number from the standard, so these seals may only be applicable to hot climate. Second issue is that you've gone for a non-genuine part so it may just be that a Genuine Part comes with them. For example, D3/D4 steering track rod ends in genuine form come with everything, but an OEM Delphi kit does not. Microcat isn't showing these seals directly - for an M57 engine L322.

PML000010 is the old number for the charge air cooler and PML000011 is the latest.

Hi Gav
When I replaced my inter cooler I did a bit of research and found that the inter cooler is also fitted to certain BMWs. Unfortunately I cannot remember what ones but most likely 5 or 7 series. Maybe an aftermarket BMW supplier can supply the parts needed or even BMW.

Not really an issue in $ terms. Yes I have to faff around and find a seal, but I saved over $800 going the way I did. The part I got is German made, and very high quality - at £100 I think it was a bargain. I was quoted well over $1000 for the genuine article.

Just have to find a pesky seal... Wink

Thanks Adrian, I'll be checking that out on Monday.

There is a bright side to having it parked up at the moment - SWMBO is riding her motor bike to work ATM, so it is saving us a bundle on fuel. Thumbs Up
