Finally sorted a few "jobs" on my 2003 TD6 !

Well here is my first thread on FFRR

I have owned my TD6 since Sept 2012 and have covered 7000 miles since owning it

Well all the engine bay jobs needing sorting so last week I made a start

I work for myself as a freelance MOT tester and have a small unit in Wednesbury where I do service / repairs and quite a lot of diagnostic work

Here is what I got upto last week !!!!! Whistle

Replace the following :

Intercooler
Intercooler hoses
Glow plugs
Rocker cover breather
Water pump
Thermostat
All fan/aux belts
Oil and Filter
Diesel Filter
Correct spec anti-freeze
EGR blank and K+N Air filter (yes I know the purists dont like em and evidence out there that they not much cop - but I like em - lol)

Remove and check :

All 6 injectors as I have diagnosed 1 is "bleeding off or leaking"

So here is what I managed to get done inbetween 5 MOT's and a service today !!

Plenty of room to poke around now Surprised

The "caked-up" inlet manifold is all clean (horrible job !) and ready to go back on once I get my injectors back from being tested/checked/overhaul if needed

All injectors came out with only the slightest "tap" to loosen em Very Happy

Well had all 6 injectors tested and 1 was "leaking back" as though it was an open tap and another one was leaking back slightly but enough to warrant overhauling

Inj 5 tested OK and when I checked the dribble rail seal it was clear the seal was "flattened" in one area enough to cause the dampness seen on a previous pic

I collect the 2 overhauled injectors in morning but have fitted the 4 serviceable ones

Water pump and stat fitted and 2 x new belts (number shown so if you need a belt these will be the part numbers you will need

The intercooler is fitted in the plastic housing and thats pretty much all I can now do until tomorrow

I could have rebuilt the front end but whilst I have all the front off I can get to the engine area real easy so couldnt be RS'ed to refit it yet

Thankfully no swirl flaps were on my TD6 and I am led to believe no TD6 Range Rover has the pesky little blighters fitted - lol

Flaps were only fitted to the auto boxed bmw's and nothing else from what I know Wink

R2000 would it be easier to strip the front end out to get at the injection pump or would it be easy to from the top? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Not sure at all but even with the amount I removed from the engine/bay the HP pump was still well hidden away

How has a faulty HP pump been diagnosed ?

Fuel rail isn't getting upto pressure and then spits out an error code and it won't fire without some easy start or such to get the engine upto tick over quickly as I'm guessing the pressure is too low Sad also the glow plug relay is throwing a fault code so need to check that as well but it was showing 28,000(approx) kpa on diag for fuel rail pressure when last fires up so not 100%.

Primary pump seems fine as flows plenty of fuel and is only a few months old. In tank is about the same as well.

Replaced injectors 5-6 as they were showing more fuel flow and balancing than the others and that's now resolved a little.

Ill pm you a link to the thread so as not to hijack yours though if that's ok?? FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Whats a swirl flap please?

Why is the need for a jubilee clip on the air filter?
Mines seem to be a tight fit.
