Came out from work last night at 6pm, got in the FF, and it just spins over on the starter.........not good.

Mmmm me thinks.

At 7:45 pm the AA arrive, to diagnose similar to me - fuel pump.

The garage I use collected it on a low loader from my work car park at 11 am this morning and I've just collected it, having had a new secondary fuel pump fitted.

There was no warning for any issue, just stopped working.

With £50 for the recovery and £45 fitting and £147 for the new pump and vat on some of it, its now running again......and won't have to spend the night on its own in a car park on an industrial estate.

I know I could perhaps have got the cover off the pump and given it a knock, but I didn't have the right tools and was wearing a suit.

At least it won't need another one of those for a bit.

Not too bad - not had a bill since the first week of January !!

The recovery bit was sort of my choice, as I didn't want the car taken to a garage that was closed and just being left. I thought it'd be better in a car park with cameras overnight.

I needed the car back working fairly sharpish as I'd be stuck today, and that was the fastest way of getting it to them.

The aa also didn't send a suitable recovery vehicle initially and I couldn't really wait another hour for one to turn up.

And I've just realised that a low loader wouldn't have got to the car as there is a height restriction on car park entry that I could only remove during working hours, as it needs a key.....

So perhaps not ideal, but got where I needed to be.

The fuel pump is listed as being covered by my warranty, so that will be another discussion...... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I had a similar thing happen, the car was recovered to my local garage at night, when they arrived in the morning the car started and drove perfectly. They checked the voltage on the pump and saw that it was weaker than it should be causing it to be temperamental. It is a common issue as they wear out. Had it replaced and has been fine ever since. Tom

Yes, I believe it can be a common issue, at a certain age.

The garage has just phoned me to say the warranty company are footing the bill, bar the recovery of course, so could be worse.

Happened to me so I bought a spare one and have it cable tied inside bonnet
Just in case
(I know, after the horse is bolted. But....)
Piece of mind for sure.

As I mostly travel long distance in work clothes and could come a cropper at some point I have these items in the spare wheel well:

I just carry a pair of old telewest work trousers, T shirt as well, and Steel toe capped work boots and some light work gloves that you can get from a place called Pound Land for a price of £1. they never last long but for the price i can live with that  FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Reading to all the emergency/breakdown kit carried I cant help wondering if owners of Toyota's, Kia's and Honda's carry the same???  Mine was a blue one!
