Came out from work last night at 6pm, got in the FF, and it just spins over on the starter.........not good.

The recovery bit was sort of my choice, as I didn't want the car taken to a garage that was closed and just being left. I thought it'd be better in a car park with cameras overnight.

I had a similar thing happen, the car was recovered to my local garage at night, when they arrived in the morning the car started and drove perfectly. They checked the voltage on the pump and saw that it was weaker than it should be causing it to be temperamental. It is a common issue as they wear out. Had it replaced and has been fine ever since. Yes, I believe it can be a common issue, at a certain age.
