The Building Regulations go overboard as regards insulation and air tightness and then they stipulate permanent holes must be fitted in windows.

I used masking tape on some old ones when the sliders broke on them.

I guess they don't want occupants to run out of oxygen if they have a very well sealed house. I have only ever lived in period properties where there are natural vents everywhere, whether you like it or not. Tom

A stupid rule if you ask me. Does oxygen not flow in when people go in and out of houses?!?

Well I've just put tape over the holes to see if it helps and what a difference right away

Brian you could remove all internal vents if fitted in the head of the frame as pics and fit a small PVC trim the full width (ingo to ingo) to cover the vent slot might look a lot neater when fitted and sealed up. Gone
