Anyone ever replaced there trickle vents on double glazing to acustic ones ?
I'm getting lots of noise coming in through these or is there anything I can put in the vent that will still allow it to vent [/i]

We have fitted thousands of windows to all types of property in the countryside and town centres with out any problems with noise pollution from vents. Have heard of these acoustic vents but they tend to be used on commercial projects last time I seen them speced was a few years ago on a job near Glasgow airport.
I can ask a couple of suppliers for you and see what is available and what they cost now.

Went to a job where they had moved in and complained they couldn't get any air in through the vent previous owner had taken vent off and filled with expanding foam, might be a cheap fixed for you.

We moved into a new build house and the new regs are stupid regarding the vents.
It's as if the windows are open all the time.

Block them up then...? Graham

Expanding foam

Drove me nuts too. Soon fixed it. If I want a vent I'm intelligent enough to manage opening the window.

The Building Regulations go overboard as regards insulation and air tightness and then they stipulate permanent holes must be fitted in windows.
You really couldn't make it up.
In the vast magority of newish houses the vents are not necessary imo and can be dispensed with. Who wants a hole to outside in every room in winter?
As you have found noisey and potentially dirty things.
I would be inclined to tape them up initially to see how you get on and if you find things ok simply fill them with foam.
The ones I would be inclined to leave working, if acceptable, are those in the bathrooms where they do have some value.

I used masking tape on some old ones when the sliders broke on them.

Good way to test that wont stain the window frame or leave anything tacky behind.

I guess they don't want occupants to run out of oxygen if they have a very well sealed house. I have only ever lived in period properties where there are natural vents everywhere, whether you like it or not. Tom

A stupid rule if you ask me. Does oxygen not flow in when people go in and out of houses?!?

The rules of this country beggers belief to me.

Brian you could remove all internal vents if fitted in the head of the frame as pics and fit a small PVC trim the full width (ingo to ingo) to cover the vent slot might look a lot neater when fitted and sealed up. Gone
