2003 Range Rover SE Td6 Epsom Green
New member and owner woes

Hi All, New member and have just taken delivery of 2003 TD6 SE and already the lights are coming on! Once I get up to motorway speed there's a chime and the "!", ABS and DCS symbols light up, a light comes on in the centre of the air suspension dial switch and warnings scroll on instrument panel "Air suspension inactive" and "HDC inactive". Stop and restart engine and it's all gone until another 10 minutes down the road. I'm at HG3 5PA, any nearby members with a fault code reader?

Hello & welcome.1st port of call would be to replace the battery, do a search for the appropriate type + there were discount codes for eurocarparts as well. Best of luck.

If this is happening whilst you are driving then it could possibly be a goosed alternator not charging. Have its output checked.

Hope you get it sorted but I am afraid you are going to have to get used to it's "Intricacies" but there is plenty sympathy and advice from the forum!! Mine was a blue one! Smile

My 07 TDV8 did exactly the same. After a lot of arsing about it was traced to the small motor between high range and low range gears. It was faulty, and was tripping all the alerts even though it wasn't being used. Put a new one in and never had the problem again. - Ad augusta per angusta -

as far as I know it was the last in a long line of things they checked and tried. We did battery, alternator, all the usual stuff and then a specialist indy found the problem. It took a week of trying things as they didn't want to keep putting new bits on that weren't going to fix the issue. - Ad augusta per angusta -

If it's only doing this a motorway speeds then it'll be something to do with the suspension trying to lower itself to the motorway height, which it should do. You can stop this from happening by pushing the centre button on the suspension control switch until the lights on the button come on. This will keep the suspension at normal height and stop it from attempting to lower itself until you get it fixed.
Why the HDC fault as well, I don't know, but it will be connected.

The best investment for you at the moment would be an IID Tool so you can read & clear faults yourself and make adjustments to the vehicle setup if you want too. They arn't cheap but pay for themselves within a short space of time if it saves visits to the garage to have faults read. Wink

The light on the centre button comes on when the chime etc. goes off so sounds a possibility assuming the car would lock the suspension if the adjustment wasn't working. Is that a height sensor problem and how is it checked? Are there 2nd hand IID tools and how much are they? Would an IID be able to check for height sensor failure - assuming it was something approaching an idiot in car maintenance terms wielding it!?

I suggest that you contact the IID team to ask what the capabilities of the IID are in that field. I will definitely read all the fault codes.

Based on the info in this thread, the first suspect could be the height sensors. And there is likely to be a fault code as the chime went off. So in case you don' t have the IID in hand, you can go to a local indie that can read it for you.

With the JLR products, investing in a tool like the IID, is a very wise investment. Even if you are not "a technical person" the forum can help you a lot with the information the IID gives us. The combined experience on here is more than most chief mechanics see in a lifetime Smile MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

The IID Tool will read any suspension fault codes and tell you the height at each corner so, i assume, if one's missing then that's the corner to start looking at. Wink

These tools are registered to a single vehicle when you first plug them in. I know you can get an open licence for the likes of garges but I'm not sure if you can change a licence on a tool or not, you would need to contact GAP Diagnostics for that info if you found a second hand one. Wink
