Multiple error messages HDC inactive, SUSPENSION etc

Last week I put the ignition key in only part way and the immobiliser appeared to go a bit loopy, when I pushed it fully home the car started and I got bong and trans fail prog, I went to get some fuel about 2 miles and after I filed up and restarted the fault cleared. It did the same the following day and again fault cleared after a switch off and restart. Today it has brought up HDC failure, trans fail prog ans suspension inactive and abs failure all at the same time, HELP. Car is a 02 4.4 vogue. Car is booked for a service and a look at the trans error on Friday, all I read suggests that this may be a battery or electrical drain type problem.

Have you tried turning the steering wheel all the way to the left, hold for a second, then all the way to the right? Previously..

Sounds like my problem...... It was a brake switch. Try passing the brake pedal down hard and see if it repeats it. 2011 Stornaway Grey 5.0SC Autobiography

Not a 100% convinced though the non AA garage guys aid it was, the battery is obviously very low as interior lights are very dim the P light on the trans is flickering and there is not enough power to trigger the central locking. When he attached his start unit drained it really fast, and that was just enough to operate the locks. Read some things that said it could be earth leads? How can I check the alternator on the car? If I fully charge the battery will that be enough to get the car started or would I be better jump starting of the wife's Disco?

to check the alternator on the car , connect a voltage or multimeter to the battery and run the range at idle, it should read near to 14.5 volts . ... - .- -.

The FFRR is a very complex car but as far as the battery and alternator is concerened this is standard off the shelf stuff that any competent mechanic can advise on so the AA (or their sub contractor) should be correct. Both the AA and RAC carry good testing equipment. If you're not happy, call them back.

Also, there are loads of videos on YouTube which show you how to test the battery, alternator and any current draw.

If you're still not sure, take it to a battery specialist (e.g. Bedford Battery with branches in Bedford and Northampton) - This is very much their bag and they can easily tell you what needs replacing.

My FFRR had a weak battery AND a poor alternator so remember it could be both at fault!

Good luck. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

So possibly the transfer box ECU (located behind the battery and below the windscreen) is getting damp?

I get around this by never cleaning the vehicle. Laughing 2006 4.2 SC
