Gear lever - Probably a silly question.

Very sill question this, please don't laugh.

I have been without my FF for a while whilst it was having a recon gearbox fitting and some other work etc. meanwhile I have only been driving manual cars.

When I picked it up all seems well, except for a niggling doubt in my mind about the gear lever. Can somebody confirm a simple thing please.

When I move the gear stick from P to D,N or R etc I have to flick the trigger at the front of the stick. However when I move between D and N the stick moves without flicking the trigger. For some reason I seem to think I had to flick the trigger to activate all gear lever movements. Am I imagining things or even going crazy? Or have they down something to the gear change on the recon box? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Mikey, I dont know the technical reason for the trigger but in all the autos I have driven I have never used it. So, not a daft question BUT did make me laugh Thumbs Up

Roscoe, you must use the trigger to change out of P though. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

D to N moves without use of the trigger and vice versa, it least it always has in mine. Thumbs Up

Mikey, well Censored me, I have had to go out and start the car to see what I do, indeed I use the trigger to get out of park, just shows you...unconscious competence, or at least that is my excuse, I would have sworn I never touched the bloody thing, you learn something every day Thumbs Up Bow down

It's done so nothing can unintentionally knock the selector out of Park.
