does anyone know what the different versions of the sat nav that can be used with a touchscreen satnav as i might have to start looking for a new one in the near future? i am guessing that there's different versions? i know that i need at least a mark IV but does anyone know if there are any other versions i can use?

Think you are getting confused with pre & post-touchscreen here.

The MK IV unit is a non-touchscreen device that is a BMW upgrade from the MK III unit. It was never fitted to the FFRR by LR.

They use different communication methods, Mk III/IV is a CANBUS system & the Denso Touchscreen is a MOST fibre optic system - totally different.

I think if you have a touchscreen then all you can do is update the DVD disc to a later version. Ask Dan @ Duckworths what is the latest one to get  Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Having followed this thread and your previous one Andy I was wondering what year/model your car is. This might help us to advise you better. Obviously it's post 2004 04 as it is touchscreen.

Judging by the little car in his profile, I would say it is a 2005 TD6 Vogue SE in Zermatt Silver  Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

on a pc/laptop all you have to do is to 'hover' your mouse over the little car and the details pop up....if you are using a browser on ipad/iphone you just tap on the car ... ... - .- -.

hi guys, the reason that i was asking is that i think that my satnav dvd drive is "kapput" ! so i was wondering what my options were for replacement of just this part..... i have a touchscreen satnav...... apologies for the confusion....

so does this mean that the only one that will work will be the one that was in there? part number YIB500023 and its a denso unit.....

I would check whether it's the DVD or the drive unit by borrowing another DVD first and trying that.

But if the DVD drive is broken, then you will need to change like with like but I would check with Dan that the part number is correct for your VIN and get a quote from him.

andy , have you contacted member wiggs re a repair, i think he doe this...and when you get it all sorted dont put your 'new' disc in, contact me via pm and i'll send you a 2012 back up copy disc. ... - .- -.

its deffo the drive the little white disc has fallen out so looks like just the one unit is the right one cheers guys....
