Time to move on or keep?

After 6 months of nothing but trouble with electric gremlins the dealership has had enough and offered to buy the car back. Although this is tempting because I got the car on finance I won't see a penny and would be without a car. Do I keep the car (the brief moments it works I love it) and get it fixed under warrenty and hope for the best? I'm having the same issue as a few people on here the key wont turn in the ignition but if I disconnect the battery join the terminals for 10 secs the leave it disconnected for 20mins all is ok until i switch off and leave it for a bit then nothing and I have to repeat the process. I have noticed that the weather strip along the top of the bulkhead is letting water in onto the battery. Also the audio has an intermitant problem with it cutting out and having to switch the car off waitfor the pe=ower light on the head unit to go off then start up again again this has been going on since day one and nobody seems to be able to find the cause. As the dealership is prepared to buy the car back I was thinking maybe I should ask for some money back and to leave it at that?

What price have they offered? I would say let them have it back and find another one. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

They haven't given me a price once I get back from my holiday which I used the car for so I'm stuck waiting for the garage to fix it I'm going to have a meeting with the manager of the dealership. He said we need to come up with a figure we are both happy with. It took me a few months to find what I thought was the right car I can't go that long again. I was tempted to go over to a disco

Sling it back at them and be thankful they're offering to buy it back.

You may find the price offered is better if you find another model from that dealer to purchase in return.

I appreciate how selective you've been finding your current one, however, so he may not have anything to youtr taste. But worth exploring the possibility to see what's what? Si. <This is my name.

Previous owner = 8 months trouble, you = 6 month trouble. Shocked

Either this car is a serious lemon or the dealership doesn't know how to repair cars. Or maybe both! It's VERY rare to get a buy back offer. I'd say take it and go somewhere else for a good one. I've not dealt with the gentleman, but Gaz is thought of highly on the site. He can probably sort something decent.

If it has been that much trouble, and has been for the full 6 months, you are within your rights to reject it under the sale of goods act. Plenty of information about that on here.

Anyway, you should be looking to get back what you paid for it, not what the dealer thinks he feels like giving you. There are laws in place to protect you as a consumer. How you negotiate this is your call but I would be saying something like
Find me another car, give me back what I paid for this and we have a deal.
or
If you don't give me back what I paid for the car I will reject it under the SOG act anyway. If you want to sell me another car I suggest you play a little more nicely.
or if you need to play hardball.....
Please don't force me to issue proceedings for rejection.

The thing is, if the previous owner only kept it for 8 months there is a reason for that. It's a fairly small matter to get hold of a vehicle's history, especially around warranty claims. It might turn out that the dealer knowingly sold you a car which had a history of issues and it really is upon them to perform the due diligence on this.

You could also quite reasonably claim compensation for loss of use for all the time it has spent being fixed. Note also that you would reject it back to the finance company, not the dealer. However, finance houses are not in the business of owning cars and they will make short work of the dealer concerned.

Best of luck. Dom.

Have to say i agree with the above. Why would you take an offer to buy it back? I would want all my money back....you did not pay the dealer to 'rent' the vehicle did you? Just be polite but firm and demand a full refund, the law would be on your side should you have to go tthat route, but the fact the dealer is already saying he will take the car back tends to admit their liability anyway.
Good luck OP Thumbs Up

Deffo take the money!

I've had nothing but trouble with my FF since I bought it (including the same ignition problem you have) and if the dealer offered to buy it back, I would bite his arm off (as long as it was a sensible price of course!).

There are plenty of other good ones out there and as googsy2 said, go speak to GAZ - he's your man! Cheers

Greg

Go ahead punk, make my day........
